Well we all knew he was good but I don’t think we realized he was that good. damn he fucked hunter up and hunter knew it just look at his face at the end of the game. Anyone think he’s taking the dub?

He's insanely good on offence, but I don't think he'll be able to put up a good defence against riders with weirder tricks, like Hugo doing a nosepress

Well put. Regardless, I love Slvsh because they put me onto new skiers. He's the only new face here and it's so sick.

He did really well with all the pipe tricks that hunter Hess (a pipe skier) was pulling so I think he can adapt. Nose presses aren’t that crazy.

lmfao they are when you're hauling dick off a cannon rail, are you really downplaying how gnarly that trick is?

I'm calling Taisei makes it all the way to the semis, but Emil comes out to the finals. He's really (REALLY) good, but Emil has a whole bag of tricks that barely count as the same kind of skiing as Taisei's specialties.

gnarly sure, but we've seen some pretty crazy defenses put on against new wavers by comp skiers. Remember Oystein vs Magnus? When you're already that good at skiing it doesn't always matter much if you haven't done a trick before

I'm not saying that it's impossible for the rest of the field, I'm just saying that trick is pretty ridiculous and shouldn't be downplayed as "isnt that crazy". Thats one of the most impressive tricks done in this cup so far.

Also I dont really think theres any "new wavers" in this comp. Everybody is an elite level skier.

I hope the whole trend of calling certain skiers "new wavers" dies after this season. Wack ass term.

Yeah you’re right a nose press down a landing out of a cannon is way more gnarly than the 810 on 270 out he did. Or the dub 12 out of the pipe. Have you seen how balanced his spins are I’m sure balancing on the tips of his skis won’t be the gnarliest thing he’s done. Besides for a press you can just put your hands out to tripod if you’re going down and roll out onto your back and it won’t end up too bad. You can get way more wrecked on a massive 810 onto a rail which kinda makes it more gnarly. A pro skier has a way better chance of coming out unscathed on a nose press off a cannon no matter how fast he’s going than an 810 on 270 off gone wrong or learning a dub 12 out of a pipe.

I've never even heard this term before, but not sure why you see an issue with it. what do you think the term should be?

Taisei is fire, I felt bad after Hunter got hurt on the first trick but the way he came out the next day was just way too competitive. You could tell he was playing to win and that's probably why the game was only 11 minutes and not 20 like some of the others. I have no problem with trying to win but have some fun with it at least, do some mellow/weird tricks in the beginning of the game. It's better for the riders and the people watching. Woodsy is the best ref that SLVSH has to offer and there was no dispute on whether or not Taisei should have won or not.

i never said it was more gnarly, brush up your reading comprehension skills.

I never said anything about a nose press down a landing being gnarlier or more difficult than a 810 on to a rail. Landing on the balance point of your noses and riding it down a landing without putting a hand down or flexing out and smashing your collar bone into the snow is a pretty damn gnarly trick. That's all I'm saying lmao, sorry you took what i said to heart. :(

Alright I said he adapted to hunters pipe tricks like the dub 12 out of a pipe so I can’t see how it’d be harder to adapt to a nose press because it’s not as crazy and you went off about how it is gnarly and I’m downplaying the nose press and went against other people saying new wavers so maybe go back and check your reading comprehension. I brought in the 810 because you didn’t seem to agree with the pipe stuff so I brought in his rail game for a more equal comparison (or maybe your reading comprehension skills made you miss out on the pipe thing idk). I just said it wasn’t as gnarly as the other stuff he’s been doing and adapting to/ learning so I don’t think he’d be that phased by attempting it. Also, Gnarly means dangerous if we’re going on about reading comprehension and as I said before put your hand out to tripod if you’re going down and you won’t smash your collar bone so I don’t think it’s that gnarly. Besides if you think of the physics behind it you already took the majority of the impact with your skis (unless you really messed up and just landed on your face but I feel like all the guys in Slvsh can get it skis down first on a switch out of a cannon) and the speed won’t effect the impact if you fall backwards onto the ground it would just give you more abrasions because you’d slide further but they have covered skin for the most part including their face. Also I’ve done nose presses by mistake by being way too far forward landing switch before (and my collar bone hasn’t ever taken an impact bad enough to break it whether I pulled it back together or went down) but I’ve never accidentally done a dub 12 out of a pipe so I kinda just kinda think adapting to a dub 12 out of a pipe is a bit crazier.

He is kinda sick ngl

But idk about butters with that spin to win type skiing

Butters aren’t that difficult. I could do butters before I could do rails. You people need to stop thinking comp skiers are unable to do butters or presses because they don’t choose to. Just because you can’t do any tricks but you can butter doesn’t mean that he can’t butter because he can do huge spins and focuses on that aspect of his skiing. I legit watched a day in the life with max hill years ago and got a switch tail butter 3 my very first try. And then the first time I ever attempted a 5 I got it and same with a nose butter 3. And I’m not a pro by any means so I’m super positive he’ll be able to pick it up.

TLDR

i didn’t go off about anything I just said I think the trick is gnarly and shouldn’t be downplayed. No shit a dub 12 is a crazier trick, duh lol. I’m not reading an entire essay about a trick so whatever lmao

And I never downplayed it so idk why you say it shouldn’t be downplayed i just said it’s not as crazy as the dub 12 he adapted to which you agreed with.

“Nose presses aren’t that crazy” = downplaying.

lmao I’m done w this argument. You’re lookin way too far into it

Because the scentence before I was talking about learning a dub 12 out of a shark fin. I really can’t believe you talked down on my reading comprehension. Yours is a 2nd grade level I think.

Sick

we've only seen him play one game he might be able to put down a rlly wide variety of tricks. but hes def the only one in the field thatll stomp a 8 on 2 out of a little a-frame rail as seen on his instagram... dude can SPIN

It was just a matter of getting the set into his hands then it was over. The only chance his opponents have is not giving him control of the game imo because he just saw how quickly he can end a game...

When the guy you're up against throws a blind 6 out on his very first trick, you kinda need to bring your A-game though.

I don't really agree with this, SLVSH is a competition and everyone should feel free to be as ruthless as they want. And I think especially since taisei being a relatively unknown face and the first japanese skier to be in the comp, he has every right to show people what he's got. If I remember correctly at peyongchang all the slope skiers were doing mellow runs in qualis or something and then taisei threw down a banger and upped the level of competition for the whole field.

I dont blame Hunter for skiing competetively because that’s exactly how Taisei played. None of Taisei’s trick calls were by any means mellow.

Unpopular opinion but not a big fan of his style overall. Doesnt mean I dont think hes incredibly talented and will have a good shot at winning... I just dont love the way he skis. All in all I dont think he will be able to keep up with some of the jump tricks/handdrags or other interesting tricks in this cup

My favorite part is when he calls his tricks haha. But he's fucking nuts, I can't believe he tried those doubles on the quarter pipe like that

Thats totally fair. I kinda see SLVSH as a movement away from conventional comp styles, and when slvsh started i felt like it was all about entertainment for the riders and the viewers. And even though it is the SLVSH CUP, which at this point in the season is premier entertainment for park skiers like us, playing a game of skate or slvsh is just as much about exploring the styles of different skiers and learning from that. Which I think happened in this game. Taisei in my opinion had a much more positive attitude from start to finish. Looked like he was so happy to be there that he didnt care if he got knocked out in the first round or not, thats definitely a lot of the reason i was glad to see him win.

I love the fact that, due to his location, he has almost no mainstream influence of people telling him to be more steezy or spin less. The dude skis exacty how he wants to ski, and that happens to be insane spinning. If you peep his ig, you will see he does a lot of skiing in a little indoor facility that doesn’t really allow for much creativity. So he spins as much as possible and got damn good at it
