Tail grabs on 3's

So, I'm having a lot of trouble with tail grabs on my 3's. I usually can't find the grab when I'm spinning, and If I do happen to touch my tail, I will usually land backseat, and I know it doesn't look good either haha. Are you supposed to bend your legs, and bring your boots up to your butt or what? You guys have any suggestions? +K for help.

practice straight airing with the tail grab a lot, and then it will come a hell of a lot easier when youre spinning because youre used to doing them by then

This. Just remember to bring the grab to you, don't reach for it. That's what will throw you off axis.

My friend taught me by comparing the positioning to doing buttkicks in any sports practice. if you bend your knee as much as you can your ski will be in a much better place to grab and it will be easier to tweak it out

If you spin to the left then do this.

Once you take off twist your legs toward your right shoulder and grab with your right arm. Or vice versa for right side spins

ok cool thanks guys, +k. are you supposed to bring your knees up to your chest as well, or do you just do heels to butt? and how how do you keep from landing backseat?

in addition to bending your knees think about pushing the balls of your feel down in your boots like pressing a gas pedal. To keep from going backseat don't think about reaching for the grab, just focus on bringing it to your hand with your lower body.

i might be old skool, but the progression I took to getting tail grabs in spins was to first learn to throw a backscratcher/iron cross and counter this by keeping your hands up. have someone film it and you'll see how close the tail gets to your hand. the next time you send this, just reach back and get that grab.

this is the pic that proved to me how easy it would be to get the grab (circa 2001). notice my knees are super bent.

Don't try to grab it blind. It helps me to tail grab or blunt grab by grab on the side that you're spinning, so you'll be looking at your ski as you spin. And bringing the grab to you is essential.

Yeah just bend your knees and bring the tail up to you, look over your left shoulder( if you spin left) and the tail will be sitting there waiting for you to grab it. unless you are trying a lead tail which is a whole other deal

I find them easier as the jumps get bigger. I set the spin and keep my head straight until i can see my tail out of my peripherals then grab for it as i bring my head around to finish the rotation. If you have a big enough jump you can do this very slowly and think it through as your doing it. Good luck my man!

Pull your legs up.

Do lots of three with knee grabs.

Then pull em up, cross your skis and reach back with your hand. Any grab is easy once you have getting your knees up down.

Youre landing backseat because you reach way down for the grab as you're throwing the spin. Either bring your heels to your ass more or go for the grab after youre in the air

^Tailgrabs are always on the side you're spinning, only blunts are on the opposite one..that's the difference between these grabs

awesome thanks for the help guys, +k! i have finals this week, but i'll try this out this next week and try to get some videos up. thanks again

I do uncrossed. It looks cooler. But bring your ski to your hand. Try doing liu kangs(with not the true tail) and work back from there.
