Tahoe in march

hey im going skiing in tahoe the last week in march. ive been the past two spring breaks but always just bought lift tickets to a bunch of different places which is way too expensive for me now. wondering if theres any type of spring passes or discounts at mountains with good parks, specifically squaw, alpine, or boreal. also im a college student if any of these places offer college discounts

^What he means is ski kirkwood because its awesome. Squaw is amazing but really too crowded a lot of the time. Kirkwood and Alpine are probably the two best hills IMO. Heavenly and Northstar are the worst. I can get you discounts to kirkwood because I have a season pass so let me know when you come out.

Fitzzzz! You and Teddy are so pro, I don't understand why you aren't just getting lift tickets thrown at you already--someone get this kid a lift ticket!

He wants park, so not kirkwood.

I never really ride park, but parkwise Alpine/Squaw/Northstar/boreal...and I think heavenly are all pretty good. Sierra was pretty good when I went there 2 years ago as well.

for awesome spring skiing/ powder go to Alpine/squaw/ kirkwood or mt rose....I'll be at squaw for my spring break

Coming out west to ski park is stupid. Can't you do that on the east coast?

A rail in tahoe is no different than a rail in Ohio....

So?

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I wouldn't travel 3/4ths of the way across the country when you can drive 4 hours to some nice east coast park.

Also it depends on what the weather is like. If its dumping then you're a fool to be skiing park and wanting to go to flatstar or heavenly when you could ride the wood or squaw or meadows.

Personally I ski park when there is no fresh snow to be had, I suggest you plan on what mountain you go to the same way. Aka squaw, kirkwood, meadows if there is snow. Heavenly, northstar etc... if no snow.

This is correct.

I like Alpine Meadows for this reason- the big mountain is good and easy to get to with no more than 5-10 minutes of hiking for most of it, open boundaries (DON'T go out of bounds alone/without someone who knows the area/without beacon; you don't know the area's avvy tendencies and you don't know exactly how to get back from places). The park is good, too, but I've not had the practice skiing park to make me very good at it at all. I'd rather ski 55 degree corn with small cliff airs than park.

i dont think youve been to ohio. and i just like park, ive skied the parks at tahoe the past two springs and had the time of my life and do not regret staying in the park at all. just wanted to know what the deals are because ive heard some places offer spring passes and im a broke college kid

If you are going out of bounds at Alpine you are hiking a LOONGGGGGGG way. Or your just dropping off the back of summit and will never be found again.
The thing I loved about alpine is all that sick terrain is easy to hike/traverse and is actually in bounds.
But yeah, Alpine is the sickest. Too bad they dont have the $99 spring pass anymore.
Oh and Jonahs knows how to build jumps, so if thats what your looking for then you wont be disappointed. That jump in Eye Trip from Alpine was a public jump.

I haven't been to ohio, but I do know you're a LOT closer to a bunch of east coast resorts that have great parks.
Why come all the way out to Tahoe then?
Stop 16hrs early and stay in colorado if you only "like" park?
It just seems like a waist of time for you to travel all the way out here if you're only going to be skiing park.

^i have friends that live in tahoe that i only get to ski with over break, and the distance isnt really an issue when you fly. its like an extra couple hours on a plane to not go to colorado which btw is a 24 hr drive from me

you dont really know how to actally ski do you? i cant wrap my head around why someone from the midwest wouldnt be stoked to shred the abundant worldclass terrain.

Not that long... You can get to Grouse Rock from Summit Six in a half hour. I see your point though, no one in their right mind would go out that far if they didn't know it anyway.

True that on Jonahs building jumps well- this year's park is already awesome. Sweet jumps, killer rail yard, and a few cool jib features; the park should get even better as the year goes on since there's a shit ton of awesome stuff waiting to get built

more stoked to shred the abundant world class parks. i cant wrap my head around why i need to love "actual skiing" whatever you mean by that

He means skiing technically difficult slopes, like the stuff you see on the Freeride World Tour, etc. It's understandable you aren't into it, being from Ohio and therefore not being exposed to it, but when you see someone air a 40 foot cliff from the chairlift, it gets me stoked to go try to put my bombhole further down the landing than they did so you can claim it when you see them again. Have you watched GNAR? You're coming to that ski community; it's not exclusive to Squaw locals. A lot of Tahoe locals will know exactly what's going on, if they haven't already Ego Claim'd before you.

Park is cool, but most of Tahoe sees it as something to do only when the rest of the mountain hasn't got good snow. Hell, I'd rather ski a good mogul run with nice snow.

All that aside, Alpine will offer you a killer terrain park AND killer "real" skiing for relatively cheap. Whatever you do, DON'T ski park on a powder day, though. People will think you're a fucking moron, mostly because only a fucking moron would ski park when there's fresh pow.
