Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I'm moving down there in January and planning on doing a lot of hiking OB so I want to take one. If I find anything out I'll let you know.

REI and EMS offer classes. I'm not sure if they can certify you, but they can probably put you in touch with the people who can.

Unless you plan on guiding wtf do you need certification for? Is there like some certification card you have to show before you start hiking up random mountains???

As long as you have a good teacher certification doesnt matter.

^ settle down, he never stated whether he was looking for certification. I just added the extra part in case he was.

And you more than likely only need certification for back-country related jobs (guiding, avi control, some forest service jobs, search and rescue... it goes on). Not to hike. As many people have told you before, stfu.

check out ASI... its where we usually go hiking.. those of us who live outside of tahoe.. they usually offer courses.. Alpine Skills International.... (I think thats what it stands for) .. anyways, its by sugarbowl..

That class is like 2 days long indoor's, i dont want to learn shit like that indoor's. I want a class where we meet up with trecking skins on snowshoes and just go out and learn some shit for day.
