i was set on getting the 7d in march. waiting for the 7d mark 2 to drop. but my dad just offered to pay for most of the t4i.Im shooting 80 % photo and 20 % video

I was wondering if the t4i would hold it own against the 7d.

thanks

I bought the 7D in september and I really just took it out for action photos, mainly skiing. And the only reason I would say 7D over the T4i is because of the 7D dual processor which gets it to 8 frames a second. Im not totally sure the specs on the mark ii but I know its better quality and maybe 10 fps? that might not be right, but either way its alot more than the t4i's rate.

wait for the 7d2

7d is dated tech, and the t4i lacks features you want

I think there is to much speculation on the 7dmkii. I have talked to a couple Canon reps and none have heard anything about them. I wouldn't wait to long on it.

If your doing mostly photo, I wouldn't get a t4i. Id defiantly go with the 7D. If you want to ante up to a FF, a 5dmkii would be dope. They are discontinued and used prices are going down. Pretty sure they can be found for under $1200 used.

I highly doubt Canon tells all the reps about future unannounced cameras. If they are in the loop, they are most likely under an NDA.

I know, but since the recent release of the 5Dmkiii and 6D, i dont see a 7Dmkii coming out any time soon. I may be wrong though. Its gonna happen, i guess no one really knows when though.

From what I have read, Canon 7D Mark II will be announced in February and out in late Q1/Spring 2013. Supposed to be 20-21 MP, 10 fps, Digic 5+ or 6...if they could do something to the video I will be ever so stoked...it's all speculation/rumors though

yea it would be pretty nuts if they could use the processors to get 1080p 60fps. someone on the magic lantern forum for the 7d was saying that theoretically it could be done on the mark i.

it isn't always the processors, the sensor itself has to be able to handle the readout as well

yea low light with the 7d is rough. I shot some basketball and it was terribly frustrating. didnt get a single good shot

Also take into account that the price of the 7D will drop after the 7Dii is released. I'm not sure if money is necessarily your issue though.

All current APS-C (crop) Canon bodies have outdated sensors with mediocre noise performance and dynamic range. Those cameras are good enough though: the outdated sensor doesn't mean you can't take great photos. However, you might be able to get a better camera for less money with another brand...

I think currently the 7D only makes sense if you see the large body with large controls as a positive point, and don't want to invest in full frame (yet). Canon offers fuckall for crop lenses, so you will end up with a full frame set up with 1.6x crop sensor (this is what Canon wants, so you'll upgrade).

On the other hand you can get micro four thirds cameras with better sensors, better focusing, smaller bodies and sharper lenses than Canon APS-C. It is worth looking into, as well as some other mirrorless systems (Fuji X).
