T2i vs 7d

i have heard a lot of reviews comparing the two, i know the 7d is a lot more expensive so what is the differences between the two?

main differences are:

build quality (magnesium alloy body vs plastic)

FPS (8 vs 3.7)

Processors (dual digic 4 in 7d vs single digic 4 in t2i)

Autofocus (19 pt vs 9 pt)

and customization/menu features.

But really, with the magic lantern firmware, the t2i gains kelvin WB, intermediate ISO's, and more control over video than the 7d. If using for photos, the 7d is somewhat better, although it has pretty poor noise handling at lower isos.

Thanks! so there are no different video modes between the two they both can shoot at all the same video setting ( 1080 30 frames, 720 60fps, etc)

there are differences if you use ML on your t2i (the 7d does not have ML), but the basic framerates and whatnot are all the same

all this.

i would take a T2i with magic lantern over a 7D as far as video goes. for photo, i would take the 7D.

and yes, the T2i and 7D both have the same frame rates and resolutions, and they both have the same image sensor.

pretty much this. I mostly do video and dabble with some photos, and the t2i is more than enough than I need for pictures and I love it for video. Magic lantern is so awesome, i love having kelvin white balance/native ISOs

Just get a T2i and save yourself $500. Invest that money on some good glass. They're both going to be pretty much the same even with the 7ds magic lantern. If your buying a T2i right now you could get a sick deal on a T3i, with a kit lens (18-55) and a kit telephoto lens 55-250. Normally the T2i body is like $500, T3i body like $550 maybe but this is $599 with the 100 dollar kit lens and the $200 telephoto lens. i made a therad about it.

The point of this thread is not to say which should people buy but actually what are the real differences. The price is not a factor in this thread because im looking at a strict spec on spec list of the two. I have noticed that bigger companies almost always go with the 7d over the t2i and I am wondering the main benefits.

I have come to think the main thing is durability, The fact the production companies (stept, level 1, hollywood, etc) can get these and put a number on them and throw them out to there shooters and be pretty confident they will last a while a while is a huge up. While a t2i is a pretty fragile device that they are taking chances of having to replace them.

I know the 7ds ml is very basic but it gives the 7d alot of the features that the t2i has and the 7d will soon get the rest of the features that the t2i has.

So my comparison now is the 7d already had a benefit of being durable but lacked the hack that the t2i has. but now that a hack has been created and more coming soon on the horizon I think the 7d can finally be deemed *better (or will be when the hack is further updated).

*better to production studios where they dont want to take chances on breaking cameras and money is not a huge factor

Now of course I am only comparing video to video. If I was to take Photo to video that is completely different and the 7d is a huge step from the t2i in that.

I just posted that yesterday and the 7d had ml then so... There really is no truth about it they both technically have ml. I see your point with the 7d having a basic version of ml but updates will be implemented soon and the fact that they cracked the first version of ml on the 7d is huge and it wont be long untill more features are added to the 7ds hack.

I have a T2i and wish I had a flip out screen for filming action, the newer versions of T2i (the T4i) have it. Magic lantern is also very cool and with the right combo of a mic / mixer with built in signal boosting and turning down the camera audio gain with Magic lantern, can record some really good in camera audio.

I've gotten access to use a 7d over my t2i and its great for photos. video w/ml should be as good as the 7d, 7d can now use ml i believe though
