Yo guys,
Watched a Ian Provo edit this morning and thought I should try it out with my T2i. It's pretty shaky but I think if I were to make a little rig with a small weight on the bottom it'd be better. Its only 20 seconds but check it and tell me what you think.
Thanks

I had a 10-20mm sigma lens on, at 10mm. It's definitely one of the wider lenses on the market, I think. I may have just held it to close/ or not high up enough. I dunno really. It was mostly an experiment to see how it looks. Scary skiing with it though haha

oh word, ignore my post then. if you really wanna get sick shots like this get a gopro

Uhhh i don't think he mounts his 5D on his helmet, that would be a little too heavy...

Well they don't really make mounts for that. im guessing the stuff from his head was a gopro.

he use to mount the 5d2/15mm fish to his helmet with a sky diving mount, you can see the shadow of it in his make me famous edit

thats wild, must have been so damn heavy i cant even imagine, having a go pro on your head feels awkward.

Hahaha yeah its definately a bit risky. I had my cam covered in a plastic bag which is a bit less sketch. Still don't want to fall with it though haha. What Ian Provo uses for his handheld shots is a tripod stem. If we get another pow day, like that. I might and see what it's like with stem to hold.

The look your getting is called "micro jitter". If you plan on shooting video on the 7D's, T2i's or 5d's drop the money on lenses. Not every lens I have has IS but most do for a good reason.http://vimeo.com/12843826
Watch this video and you'll see the difference which is the exact look your getting. IS works similar to a motion tracking software but inside your camera and lens. It's not going to make it look perfect, but should help a ton. Obviously not every lens I have or everyone has will have IS but alot of the quality shots with heavy movement that look smooth won't have that microjitter because of IS. IS stands for Image Stableizer.

Who the fuck hand holds at 200mm?? Noticeable difference but still, you could save 900 dollars on the non-is version of a 70-200 and buy a tripod for 300 and have better shots.

exactly, and youll get more use out of an tripod, then an IS lens anyways, and also the non IS version is sharper than the IS version

Hey douchebag. I wasn't suggesting he shoots his shots with a 200mm lens. There are IS lenses with a shorter range he could use to achieve those shots. Personally I hate using a tripod with a DSLR as I don't have a viewfinder that can move around and is static to the lcd screen. Hence I use a Zacuto or Glidecam so I don't have to conform my body to the movement of my tripod. Plus I get the same stability from either and a much smoother looking shot even at long ranges. Sure you could save some money but I wouldn't say it makes the shots look any better, you still get jitter with the slightest bit of movement.
I was merely trying to help the OP but don't worry it's your place to miss that point and be an ass.

The non-IS version is supposedly "sharper" but the difference is very minimal. People refer to it as "splitting hair" so don't beat yourself over it.

I recongized it made a difference and i never was being an ass? If anything, i was giving shit to the guy who made the video. Hand holding at 200mm is stupid, of course its going to be unstable. When your shot is stable, IS isn't needed, period. None of that post or my previous post was an attach at you, chill out.
