I was talking to Symms last night ( we facebook-chatted *claim*) and the amount of stoke that he was exuding was unreal. He was shaking in his boots with excitement.

I know alot of us were disappointed that Sammy and Tanner dropped out, but seriously, who wants to see Hall win another comp? He is heli-ing in AK for an entire month. I would be there any day.

If Tanner and Sammy were in it, we all know it would be Jon and Jon and Jacobs blinding technique againts Hall and Carlson's raw talent. Colby's choice put this competition in a whole new perspective; I can't think of a better combo. They are a dream team. If you don't know what I am talking about, go watch Symm's segment in War.
 
West and Symms are definitely gonna be a good team, but when you say "dream team" i seriously can not think of anything better than Sammy and Tanner.
 
the team is gonna be aight, but Colby def could've chosen a way sicker partner. still havent figured out why he asked for our advice.
 
i hated symms seg in war all the tweaking was way too much and ugly but the intro was the best ive ever seen, and other symms edits and his comp stuff is way dope symms is a great skier.

Symms is a stronger pipe skier anyways. This is wack.
 
Why dont you bitch some more. Colby and Symms are sick skiers. there make a good team and if you dont like it then though shit and watch all edits. simple as that.
 
fuck you i have my own opinion and a right to express it. i said he is a great skier i just didnt like that one segment if you wanna read the whole post maybe you wont feel like such a fucktard next time you get called out.

when someone like andreas has double cork 10s both ways, having both sw 7s is a write off. No hate to symms just i'm not sure he has the skills in this sort of contest which is why he got out of the slopestyle game along time ago. A sick skier but just in other areas.
 
Lose the hate, and whatever stupid notion that suggests that skiing is about progression and doing the hardest tricks.

These two will have more fun than everyone else combined, and that's the only award that counts.

people on this site are bitching when comps are being won with 1080s and not "smoother, simpler, stylier tricks".

now you have a team that wont go very technical, but will bring a whole lot of flavor, style and HUMOUR into JOSS, and youre complaining?

also, every single time someone brings up the question "why do you ski", or "what is the meaning and reason of skiing", the answer is "its all about having fun". fun, fun, fun.

haha. They fucking better bring fun! Who wants to show up to an even like JOSS and be a debbie downer? All of last years videos were a blast to watch! Just given the nature of the event.

I hope Colby and Symms bring some creative, technical, and stylish tricks and make an amazing video and slideshow of it over a week of shooting on some of the best park features in the world. Isn't that what JOSS is about?

They should be planning to throw down and shred just as hard as the others if they have any competitive drive to win the comp (which they should have, otherwise it just seems like they're wasting spots from the ungodly # of skiers who would kill a fool to be in this comp). I hope they aren't banking on their humor and "fun" to take the win. Sorry guys, but I just don't see it happening.

Fun is a given. I'm just going to assume that since they get paid to ski, they're having fun 100% of the time (as I would with all the other pro skiers invited to the event). That sounds like a blast to me. Hopefully they'll make a killer vid that's on par with all the other riders in the comp. Please don't go overboard on handplants and noseblocks, and include more on those killer switch mistys and huge alleyoop flatspins (hopefully there's some sort of pipe feature?) that Colby/Symms are known for. Their humor is definitely going to be an added bonus to their final vid, but banking on that for the win is straight up ignorant (maybe ignant?), considering the level of talent that gets invited.

 
Thank you! The edit these two put together will be one of the most entertaining edits. Maybe not that tech but I know I will have a good time watching it because these two have so much fun when they ski.
 
Jon said that Tanner and Sammy were still competing a few weeks ago in a post about him being sorry for how long it was taking to get the results...and i am glad Simon wont be able to Double front his way to gold again.
 
Jesus christ people need to get over the double front thing, I thought that was just like a blip in skiing history that newschoolers was going to try to ignore since Simon was going to win no matter what. He basically fuckin told Jon that he thought Jon should win. My god, lets all have a collective get over the double front ftw.

no way bro. tom yeah, he'll go nuts but simon? nahh. smallest bag of tricks of almost anyone in the comp and been doing the same shit for several years. PK and Andreas are the favourites by a distance.
 
I agree, and PK and Andreas are definitely a force to be reckoned with, but I think Tom will be able to carry Simon, and make for a good competition.
 
the ONLY thing that keeps me from completely hating dumont, is that he gave the prize money to Riley. that is completely cool in my book.

we will see how it turns out though.

i am completely stoked to see symms and west throw down. i am sure they have a few tricks up their sleeves.
 
i think its rad, maybe we will see some sick 180s and switch 3s..... which would be a nice change compared to super ballerina 1620's..... all you little wayne park rats can afterbang each other and shut up!!

THeir video will undoubtably be hilarious and both are solid skiers with unique styles so they should do pretty well. They should have Luke Van Valin make an appearance
 
i think that Andreas and pk will do the best skiing in the comp. but remember, its not just up to them to win. the photographer and filmer have to do a good job too. because of this, its anybodys game
 
well i guess its lucky they have jon hatveit on their team then. seriously, i will be astonished if they don't win.

JOSS is a team effort and a lot of people tend to forget that.Just look at last year's edits:
- Henrik Harlaut and in particular Jacob Wester suffered from lousy filming and editing.
- In my book, Sammy Carlson and even more so, Dumont and Håtveit earned extra points for sick filming and editing, (and that wasn't just the follow cam parts or filming from a paraglider).
- There weren't too many really original ideas but Dumont stood out for being serious about it all and Colby was the 2008 star of originality when imitating other skiers on and off snow.
- Jon suffered from an OK idea lousy executed. Oscar had an interesting approach with sound captured from the skier's point of view. Olenick... well, no. None of the brought it all the way home.
The best skiing in the world won't help you bring home JOSS if the team isn't working. Also; two skiers, two filmers, four egos... that doesn't exactly make it easier for the team.
If you ask me, there are too many ski movies around that are as boring as hiphop videos to watch, (no humour, no story, no nothing...). Therefore I'm glad to see Colby and Symms teaming up. End of rant.

i'm more bummed about candide having to drop out, i haven't seen hall hit a park jump for a while except on glaciers in the summer every once and a while.
