Once upon a time there was a planet, whizzing along through the most vast and empty corner of space. It was a blue planet, because of it\'s abundance of water. From the water evolved the most amazing food chain in the universe, cropped full of species with incredible intelligence. Most notable of these species were the dolphins and the humans. Both loved to play in the blue water of the magic planet. Then like clockwork the planet would tilt into a particular angle, and the water would cool and recycle itself...as snow, a substance the humans loved to play in. -Greg Stump

i am considering switching to, i don't play any games

I saved Latin, what did you do?

macs have the best operating system. Windows bites. And for video, audio, image editing, anyone who is serious about it uses a mac. they come with a video editing program. Go for a Mac.

macs are sick because they run everything twice as fast as a pc, and they never bog down when you are running them

I been thinking about that too. Do they make any good laptops?

hey guys be careful withthe mac thing - yeah they are better for the video and other graphically intense operations, but dont right off pcs.

I use macs at work (new imac, powerbook g3, and a g3, all with at least 512 ram) and although they are great for when we do all the dtp and web design stuff, when you run 'normal' stuff like word processing and shit, they are a major disadvantage.

I mean nearly every day suppliers and stuff email me attachments which are normally word or excel or something, and i have to reply ask them to fax it cos i cant read none of that shit.

also, the new os x is a pain cos loads of the programs run in classic mode anyway, which is the older 9.2 operating system, cos there are too many glitches and programming problems at the moment for software developers, although this is changing.

Also just remember that getting support is a lot harder should you have any technical probs, as usually the call centres and stuff only have a few peeps who now about the mac version.

I would say get a mac EXCLUSIVELY for you animation stuff, but keep the pc for everyday surfing, email, and that kinda shit. At least for now...

--Peace Out--

the new macs are amazing. its like they were built for totally retards. its so easy to use. the video editing is awesome. they are so good. they have amazing laptops and really good home computers as well. i'd seriously consider getting one.

slick - sounds like peer pressure.

Do what ya want, I'd rather run dos than mac. but thats just me.

dude to the guy who said it sucks for word processing. Do you know there is Office X which is just like offfice that you get on your pc from Windows. Might wana look into getting that. My new mac rules and I wouldn't trade it back for a pc ever (maybe get a pc in addition but def not get rid of this.

I switched and am very happy i did. Final Cut Pro 3 is the shit and eah i just love my mac

When a door says private dont you just wanna walk in anyways

yea i got a new imac 17in screen and i love it. we got microsoft word and anything with word processing is pretty damn slick. it syncs like mad with my ipod (5gig) and it plays some pretty sweet games (warcraft 3, etc.) i live right by the mall of america, americas biggest mall, and there is a sweet apple store in there where u can check out all the new stuff they got. if u want a laptop go with a titanium powerbook g4. slim, light, and really powerful.

yes, macs are the best things ever. they are the best for video editing. get it, games you can play fakie flair the best game ever.

theres a natural mystic flowing through the air if you listen carefully now you will hear. its the first trumpet calling. might as well be the last. many more will have to suffer many more will have to die dont ask me why. things are not the way they used to be.

macs suck. they are underpowered for their price. i am bulding a dual proc pc for the price of a single g3 or g4 they are for people who dont know how to use a computer

i'll keep my suse and xp pro :)

Build you're dual proc computer, I have my own dual proc PC and I still prefer my new mac. Yes, you do pay more for a mac, however... They work.

Look at this shit, bitches.

umm..yea.you def pay more. you only pay more for the stability..when if you are even a intermediate for pcs you can make a rock solid comp. macs just are for people who are afraid of having to do actual work on the computer(meaning like configing stuff etc...) sorry..but i have had such bad experiances with macs and THEIR stability. plus you cant upgrade them that much and there expensive as hell to fix with a hardware problem

mac is easier to use they look pretty cool and them imovie is really good and easy to use

freeskier you are ignorant. Do you know the the structer of the g4 chip and an intel chip are different? Our data streams right through while your's gets nice and bogged down. and I'm sure that my duel 1.25 will kick your boxes ass. Any adgency or company that is remotly serious about graphical or video work uses macs. Hmmmm wonder why that could be.

...maybe they want to pay an extreme amount more to have a stable box when you can pay less and take a day or two and set up windows and make it rock solid. the only thing i like about mac is the os..i wish they would make the os for windows.

Well... considering Disney uses PC's running Linux for all their shit, I wouldn't talk just yet about 'serious pros using only MACs'

The facts are that, yes, Mac's are supremely fast, and yeah, PC's can be unstable, but this is also a software thing too. OSX is Unix based, and thats why its so great. Run Linux on a PC and you'll see a huge differance. Plus, there is a HUGE friendly user base for Linux users to get any info that they need... I'd take Cinelerra (the Linux open source video editor) over Final Cut or Premiere any day...

I have nothing against Mac's, and I absolutely love the screens, they are unbelievable. But to tell you the truth, I'd prefer doing everything myself. Kinda like the differance between a standard and an automatic transmission in a car. A Mac would be the AT, being extremely reliable and easy to use, while PC's would be the Manual transmission (running Linux anyways), you get more 'gas mileage' per se, you have more control.

I think freeskier is just upset that he can't afford to buy a mac and that you cannot build one yourself.

I also think you are incapable of listening or learning. People have presented factual issues as to why the mac works better than a wintel computer and you pretty much come back with something along the likes of an 'ohh yeah, you're momma' comment.

Andy, Linux does work well. However, it's not ready for mainstream application.

hahaha roflmao.....YEA thats it!

i could have a bought a shitty a mac instead of bulding my dual rig..but i decided to put my money into something that will last and is an actual computer. i would build a mac...if it wasnt so crappy and so damn expensive

Are there any comparable benchmark programs that run on both WindowsXP and OSX, I'd love to see some real, non-company/advertisement influenced benchmarks that can be compared between a PPC computer and an x86 computer. Something along the lines of 3dMark would be nice.

And how can you say that Linux is not ready for mainstream application? It's already used to run a good chunk of webservers, hell, Wal-Mart is selling a 199 dollar machine running the distro caled Lindows. It's main purpose is to be a cheap, family machine. If that's not mainstream. I don't know what is. Linux is definatly not just a toy for nerds anymore. It's most definatly a mainstream operating system. I could list a bunch of sales figures and shit. My idiot webpage teacher is screaming at me... oh well

Thanks for the car analogy, Andy. I'm in the process of buying a new comp, and I'm seriously considering making THE SWITCH.

wow i didnt know there was so much love for the mac out there. i love the mac i use and i can do anything a pc can do. the linux osx for mac is slick and if you know what you're doin, it can be really powerful, not to mention stable. i recomend a mac to anyone whos on the edge of 'the switch'. you won't regret it.

hey prins - i know what you mean about office, but what i meant was, why buy a mac with all its software and then have to spend more cash buying office for it? its not cost effective.

that why i said get a mac for the graphical stuff - video, pictures, rah, rah rah - but keep the pc for just everyday shit....

--Peace Out--

I got mac office, It wasn't expensive ;-)

I have not had any problems with my mac on a pc network, or exchanging files. Anyone who says otherwise simply doesn't know shit.

hell new lindows has build in support for integration between windows and linux.

you can browse a windows box over a network just like you could with a windows box

i have had nothing but bad experiences with my pc, my old one crashed about once a week, my new one is soo slow even though we got a really nice one, it is really noisy, it always freezes, maybe there is a way to fiw these problems, but frankly, I'd just rather have a mac. n3rd5

(trust me, the '' things aren't actually there)

Looks as thought ozskiers a little rich.

I just bought an emac, (next generation of the imac)

it's g4 OS X,

with limewire i've gotten all expensive programs i needed to make it the sickest shit,

60 g harddrive + 120 Gb firewire drive you can't go wrong, now all i need to do is buy a new video camera...

i will never edit on a pc again,

'I'm still Ugly'

Hardly rich, I simply work hard for my money. And yes, for the money you simply cannot beat the e-mac. Cheap, portable video production. The 17 inch monitor really makes it great. Not to mention the G4.
