Switching back to Canon? Using both systems?

I'm having an annoying personal debate going on.

in the last year or so, I've been shooting property photography off/on for landlords, homeowners, and realtors. I've been using a 20-35mm lens for most of these, and it's done pretty damn well, but so many times I end up in a situation where all I want is a hyper wide angle Tilt Shift lens to correct all the edges - especially when shooting tighter areas...

The thing is, Nikon's widest is a 24mm PC lens (canon and rokinon also have 24mm TSE lenses). Plenty wide for sure, but thats the thing - Canon and only Canon has a 17mm

Part of me is debating selling off my Nikon stuff (which I REALLY don't want to do from a personal photography standpoint) and going back to Canon gear, and the other part of me is considering picking up just an older 5D or maybe a 1DS mk2, and the 17mm TSE and using that gear for work only.

the other alternative is to just use a 24mm tilt shift because it's probably good enough, but still... that 17mm is constantly screaming in my ear "BUY ME"

Options:

1. Sell Nikon. Go Canon. Get 17mm and a few other lenses.

2. Stay with Nikon, 24mm is wide enough and I'm being ridiculous.

3. Use both systems at the same time because why not? Be a balla! Also be poor for 2 months! $$

But I don't want to be poor :(

It's like $2100 vs $600 lol.

I mean, selling all of your shit is going to be a pain,

You're talking about a very specific shot/angle/tool and changing your whole setup for that IMO isnt the right thing to do.

#2 would be chill but you seem to really want the 17mm haha.

Yeah I guess my question is whether I need the 17...

...Nikon/Samyang/Sigma/Whoever why can't you just deliver me a 17 PC? ugh.

#3, I agree with eheath switching would be a p.i.t.a.

or what about #4 ... get an adapter and use the canon 17 on your Nikon body? Maybe I'm weird but I have a Sony body and shoot both Nikon/Canon glass and its never been an issue

Canon lenses do not work on Nikon, canons flang distance is larger.

ahh ok, my bad

definitely go option 3 if you can swing it, keep the gear you know/love, and add to your arsenal. og 5D bodies are good bang for buck

Tilt shift is great, but how often do you really need wider than 24mm. I dont want to say do it digitally, but you can correct distortion and post and it works pretty well for that 'one time' you need to bust out a 17mm that isn't a TS. I don't think you need to run two systems that just seems like a waste of money.

This is my conundrum...

The closer you are to corners, the more apparent the distortion is... when I'm shooting certain rooms and areas where there's very little room to move due to a pretty cramped space, it's certainly awesome to be able to get that close and still correct corners while not deleting 25% of the shot in the post-correction process...

I don't want to lose out on shot of a room because I can't get wide enough is all.

...This would all be mitigated if Samyang just came out with a friggin 17mm tilt shift that was 'good enough' (because god knows Nikon isn't going to hang their head to do it at this rate...) Honestly, It doesn't even matter if it's a little less sharp wide open or in the corners or something... I just want something wide enough with perspective correction.

Might just pick up a 14mm instead and correct stuff in post... It might give me mostly the same stuff...

Is my beard worthy of "High-End?

There's probably a niche for beardy guys. I know there's a category for bisexual double amputee woodworkers with vitiligo and a masters degree in accounting, everyone has their fetish.

Pity I only have a bachelors degree in the science of arts.

Maybe try renting a 17mm and a Canon body for a shoot. See if it is something you will actually use vs just lust over. It would be a shame to get rid of a system you like or to waste money on something and then realize that you don't need it.

I've already used it, and I'm blown away by what it can allow one to do with an image... The lens basically improves where your eyes fail when it comes to correcting convergence...

I'll probably decide against it for now, or pick up a 14mm in the meantime and correct everything in post. If Nikon comes out with a 17mm when I'm making more money shooting houses, i'll cross that road when I come to it.
