Switch Takeoff

I was just wondering how do some of you guys do this. I can only do it off real small jumps. Do i just need to practice going backwards fast?

-Teddy Knape

Are you uncomfortable going switch or just going off jumps switch? You should probably practice going switch more because even if you are already pretty good it never hurts to get better. Then just get good at going backwards with more speed and practice on smaller and then bigger jumps.

Peace.

ya gotta get used to skiing switch, than just go off of a little bigger or a jump each time, and only move on to a bigger jump if your very comfertable with the size you were at.

Hehe the first (and as of now only) time I went off a jump switch I fell before I even hit the jump... Well I'll have stuff to practice for next year!

I hope im gonna be able to go switch. After a little blading incedent where I got hitched on a curb when I tried to jump a drop off switch.

Try riding fakie all around the mountain and then try to do fakie oin snow 180. then, hit small jumps and do just like darryl ( mikehunt10) said.

Yeah and buy MadTrix, so that it feels really stable going backwards.

'Who ordered the turkey club?' the waitress yelled across the small diner.
'I did!' The man excitedly replied.
Promptly, an over-excited turkey ran out from the back and beat the man to death with a large wooden bat.

Seriously though, just remember to lean back while riding switch. Most people lean way forwards, but that is just like leaning back while going forwards. And we all know how badly that works.

Never lean forward riding natural or switch if you are a free-heel new schooler

You don't necessarily have to learn how to ride switch to hit jumps switch (even though it wont hurt). Just think about a good pop just like hitting a jump forward and be ready.

ya, zeros feel so weird....you always think your going to land on your face.....but they are very fun cuz of the difficluty level

I dont find them hard at all, me and my cousin do them sinchronysed. We hit the lip and scream together.

:) Cédric Tremblay-Fournier :)

yeah gregg your right. Ive had a few incidents where ive tryed to just scream into a quarter pipe and the force going straight into it just flips me forward imbarising but it doesent hurt much unless you do it right before you air and then totally kill your self.

first learn to ride switch on trails and get comfortable going pretty fast. when you start taking off kickers, learn on ones with out big lips and not very huge ones either. two things when taking off : don't learn forward and don't turn too early (i had a bad experience turning too early, just be patiant and don't get scared). if you work on it youll progress fast, i went froming barely being about to ride fakie in the beginning of the year to doin switch 5s at the end....... before i snapped my shoulder. good luck bro.

Here r some of my pointers to u.

1) Practice riding fakie on normal slopes.

2) Try 180's and 360' on the slopes.

3) Attack small jumps first and gradually increase.

4) Always turn ur head to the natural side and see where u r going... when approaching the jump.

5) Keep steady. Don't lean forward and try to stay upright. Don't ever lead backward... because if u do you'll be doing a switch-flat spin and landing on your back or melon(very dangerous).

6) Commit! Just let the angle of the pop carry you in the air. But, don't forget to keep your eyes to the behind so that you can see where you are landing.

Hope it helps, dude. ^^

When you feel confortable riding switch , you can do a lot of funny thing like riding a lake switch...

once you get good at it you can just spin while cruising down the mtn. I think my record for on-snow spins was somewhere above 9 or 10 spins. I was entirely too dizzy to do anymore. So much fun.

JIBBING is not HARD, when youre a good skier, you can easily jib.

World cup racer can jib.

Learn to ski well and then jibbing will be easier.

ok, jibbing is easy. jibbing is only body movements that can be taught, so there is nothing stopping someone from going out and doing a d-spin 900 if they just know the body movements, have the balls, and just commit to the trick. the only thing that makes jibbing hard is your brain telling you 'i don't think going upside down and spinning around over a 70ft pile of ice is a good idea'.

one more question. when i hit the lip should i be looking ahead of me (turning my head) or should i be straight looking behind me

-Teddy Knape

Skier10322, u have to be constantly looking over your shoulders or you'll be doing a switch front flip which will scare the pants out of you if your not in control. ALWAYS look over your shoulders as you go airborne.

Just my .02 advice. I may have saved your precious life, man! ^^

Always watch the lip untill you it it then look down for a switch front ... ect...

and oh yea, don't push your self to much or else youll hurt yourself. the only times u should really feel uncomefortable is when u hit ur first jump switch and when u start hittin the bigger kickers switch. other wise i wouldn't recommend doing something too hard, too fast, or you will freak out right before you hit the lip.

goodluck

Yeah, just hoon around the mountain switch, it's awesome practise. I used to try switch jumps when I couldn't really ski fakie yet I would always screw up and fall over the lip and start bleeding, it sucked. I've been skiing around switch on the field quite a lot and it's great practise.
