Switch spins

today i started doing and landing some witch spins (3s and 1s) and i noticed that a switch 3 seemed a little easier than a regular one. does anyone else feel this way?

From what I have seen, switch spins seem to come easier to people than regular spins. This is especially true with me. I feel much more comfortable doing switch 5s than forward 5s. And a switch 1 to me is equivalent to a straight air.

Switch 3s come so easy because you can keep your head in the exact same spot for the entire trick.

I think a switch spin feels more natural just because your body naturally wants to turn around since your head is looking behind your front.

yeah easier, but spinning switch early on the lip sucks 10 times worse than if you spin a little early for a regular 3

Switch spins are generally easier because the first 180 is automatic. They're generally just scarier cause you're backwards, but they are easier for most people once you get past the switch take off part.

this. in my head, i always think pop switch then spot it like a 3 for a sw 5, pop and spot like a 5 for a sw 7...so on and so on...i honestly have the sketchiest/shittiest forward 7s but have put sw 10s to feet and spotted sw 12 a couple times.

everybody thinks switch hits are easier but i find them incredibly hard. not sure why but i cant seem to get my take off right and always pop to early and catch an edge. regular spins are 1000x easier in my book

That's just the whole backwards thing, you might not realize it, but most likely as your on the lip you sort of freak out (it happens sub-consciously sometimes) and try to turn around to face forward too soon and catch you tips. You just gotta relax, and be extremely comfortable riding switch. Also, practice switch spins on rollers and knolls, they're much lower consequence and can help you with your timing on the take off (especially cause you have to pop to make it happen, so you'll get a really good feeling of the pop). The spin itself is much easier than forward spins.

I agree. I learnt switch 3s in Japan in January (on my JJs of all skis....wtf?!) and I love them.

Any tips on how to go to a switch 5? Ie. How do you set it harder without your nose developing an intimate relationship with the knuckle of the jump?

I agree with most of what's being said but I think it's also largely due to the fact that if your going to spin switch, chances are you can do it regular first(at least I would hope so) so you also have the air awareness of the trick down ergo easier to learn like how people pick up skiing switch faster than skiing regular( after learning to ski forward of course) bad analogy but it's all I could think of.

The first time i did a switch 5 i was only going for sw3

Go a little bigger, spin harder (for my first one i wound up with my arms) and then just keep looking over your shoulder.

Such a fun trick and easy to grab!!!! Just dont spin too hard off the lip... Not fun.

same here... I can hit rails switch,do every damn flip and spin up to 7 but I can only do sw unatty 1.

I hate it cause I have a problem with my left eye so I can't ride sw while looking on my left side so I gotta ride sw while only looking with my right side which suck because I have to spin on my unnaty side. side side side haha fuckin switch

I find switch left sides spins incredibly hard even tough i spin left going forward. I can sw right spin up to 5 tough. Dont know why that is, and my body doenst even seem to turn as much looking over my left shoulder than when looking over my right.

I know that in my first park skiing days, I was trying my switch 1's and I was scared about landing switch so I had to get around, making me spin faster.

im having the problem, that i cant spin unnatural. regular 7s are ok but unnaty i can only do 1s or pretz 2s. however the real issue with that is that i look over my right shoulder = spinning regular switch sucks.

and i dont even want to get into switch unnaty tricks before i have the switch regs down. any help for those who look over the "wrong" shoulder???
