Switch issues

hey guys im new here, so sorry if this has already been asked (probly has) but i couldnt find the exact answer to this problem. so i started skiing switch this season, and I am carving, and i know the whole stagger stance thing, but i cant stagger my stance and ski straight backwards...i always drift one way, and start turning if i stagger my stance at all...any suggestions? especially on cat tracks when i try to go straight i cant when my legs are staggered. +k to answers
 
You just have to keep practicing and get comfortable with it. Take like 20 runs just skiing the bunny hill switch one day.
 
i had this same problem. just even out the ballence throught out ur body and try and stagger ur stance. go on a green run and practice
 
Yeah just spend all day skiing switch. Do lots of 180s and switch 180s down the runs, it will get you comfortable fasster. make sure to keep your knees bent and your weight centered and try to look steezy, and youll feel better too.
 
you have to ski switch all the time..there's no real formula.. keep doing it and keep turning and don't worry about how it looks..lots and lots of practice..end of story
 
Look over the other shoulder to turn the other way.
There really is no secret to it. It's all PRACTICE.
 
You have to separate your legs from your upper body, if that makes sense. When you turn your head and upper body around to look down the hill, you legs are going to want to follow. When skiing switch, you're trying to look down the hill while your feet point up the hill, your body is going to want to untwist if you don't hold it there with muscles in your waist and legs. The more you ride switch, the more flexible you'll become and it'll be easier.
 
im lookin over the opposite shoulder, but where should my weight be? should i be leaning inside? or what foot should i have most of my weight on the inside foot or the outside foot? and should i be leaning more uphill or centered?
 
try both and you will feel it out.. try putting weight on inside foot, then on outside..then try leaning forward a lot and then back a lot..it will come together as you keep trying.. volume is the name of the game. PRACTICE

it sounds intimidating but it helps SO MUCH

find the smallest jump in the park, ride in switch, hit the lip and just dont do ANYTHING. stay boner pretty much. keep practicing this and switch gets easier and easier. and just pop little 180s riding down the hill.

i used to have the same problem. i can look over my left shoulder fine, but looking over my right shoulder i just started turning and couldnt go straight. i found that when skiing straight you should have your weight mostly on the side you're fighting the turn. so for me, when i look over my right shoulder i have my feet staggered with right foot back and try and keep my weight distributed more on my right foot.

but it doesn't come easitly, you have to practice a lot to get used to it like everyone said. best advice is to just go to a relatively flat slope so u can go slow and practice getting a feel for going straight. and wutever you do don't let yourself turn no matter how much your feet want to!
 
i think everyone has this problem when learning to ski switch. one thing that helps is to start with less stager. i usually only bring mt toe of my foot to the sole of mt other foot. then try to look around you shoulder. when you look over it, it enitiates a spinn in your body, like when you hiy jumps. look around, dont stagger to much
 
hahaha that made me laugh...anyways two more quick questions...i bend my inside knee, but pretty much keep my outside knee straight....is that what you guys do, or is that right? also, when i struggle to spin a 180 when switch...i can easily do it going forwards to backwards but cant do it the other way...any tips?
