Switch in Pow...A Waste?

My friend was skiing on opening day switch more then anything(Waste deep pow everywhere). But why take a face shot to the ass?

you can still get faceshots switch if your making big slash turns.... plus why hate, just do whatever fells right and don't judge others

wasnt judging or hating on him, just wondered, (at aly you cant make "slashing" turns in the areas open right now)

but if you had waste deep, wouldnt you rather take a face shot in a landing, not an ass shot?

A bunch of kids are gonna post and say how sick it is, but in reality most of them have never had a face shot in their life. I've never skied pow switch, and probably wouldn't unless it was on some huge open face where I could do huge turns.

You should try it.

It's still skiing

It's called progression... or diversification. Whatever you wanna call it.

I'm all for progression but you can't ski anything steep while skiing switch. I guess its cool if you perfer to ski flat pow. You can't land switch in pow unless its flat as well. Landing flat sucks. I have yet to see someone land switch off a cliff and come out it hualing ass. Skiing switch in pow is very limiting and slow. It looks gay as well. When making a switch pow turn your inside foot goes forward so far that it reminds of ice skating. If that is what you like then thats all that matters but think it looks way better in the park.

I must say I agree. I'm a big fan of landing switch in pow, riding it out for a few turns, and then switching back to regular. For one, it's kinda hard to see where you're going when you're riding backwards AND with snow hitting you in the face constantly, and second, I'm not good enough skiing switch to ride my favorite powder lines for more than a few turns at a time.

no one is ever going to rip a 40-50 degree face switch, but when you have something with a more mellow pitch, then why the hell not rip it switch if that floats your boat? i've been getting face shots for over 20 years and the first successful switch turns i made in deep snow were like a whole new experience for me, and i will continue to ride switch i pow as much as possible. does that mean i won't ride forward in pow ever? of course not. but shit i bought a pair of bacons for the sole purpose of riding switch in pow as often as i can. just because you aren't getting snow all over your face doesn't mean your pow turns are any less meaningful.

there are so many threads on here that could be ended by saying "if you like it, then do it, if you don't like it, then don't do it." don't base your decision on what anyone here thinks or says - base it on what you feel and stop worrying about what other people think of you for it.

i wonder how many people on here have actually tried to ski pow switch.... shit is so fucking hard!

depends on the skis. me trying to ski switch in pow on my MSP's or gotamas is just funny to watch (and i don't ever try anyway with those two anymore) but on my bacon's it's like butter.....or bacon grease rather.

it depends on what u enjoy...personnely if it was super deep pow (like thigh deep) i would deff ski forward but switch is fun when there is not an abundance of pow that makes u wanna charge forwards

i'd kill to ski pow sideways right now, I really dont care what direction I go in snow is snow it all rules.

Switch pow is just as fun as forward pow. It's just different. Of course, if you have the opportunity to charge some steeps you'll do it, and you won't be doing it switch, but for those big pow fields it's nice to have some dimension with which to work rather than always skiing the same way. Usually my first run on a pow day I won't even consider turning switch. That said my first run of the year on monday was fully switch.

all i have to say is you're mad lucky - waist deep pow on opening day

and it seems like you probably get a lot of pow and your friend wants to get more well rounded skiing both directions in pow which is no easy task

Who do tricks off of jumps instead of just straight airing them? Its more fun, thats why. Switch pow runs feel sooooooo good.

i mean the reason faceshots kick so much ass is that its proof that the snow is light and deep. the actual act of getting snow in your face and down your throat while skiing is not really all that great, but the skiing that comes with it is, so really its not a waste at all.

One isnt better than the other. I think of switch as more technical and more of a challenge.

Charging fowards and getting some phat slash is also fun. It really depends on the scenario.

its not a waste if thats what your into...personaly although it looks dope I think that it limits what you can ski, its harder to ski something very steep and technicial...

Why does this matter to you? Don't ski switch in pow if you don't like it. Quit hating on different styles of newschool skiing (besides snowblading/skiboarding/gayrapeuptheass).

I don't think it's a waste at all, just personally I wouldn't do it. I love skiing forwards in the pow, and would like to keep doing that for a long time before I ski backwards in it. But I'm sure skiing switch in pow would be so much fun. All in good time.

well, i live in the esst so pow is rare i would never waste it trying to learn switch and falling. but if i were out west with lots of backcountry acces id be on that shit like white on snow

i mounted approx +2.5.

on the side of the ski it says "designed by Eric Pollard" and i mounted right at the "E"

they are pretty damn close to center, but still a couple cm back from true center.

I can see where your coming from. If it wasn't anything steep/pillows/etc and just mellow unsteap powder I'd defintely try it. For anything else though, I would enjoy doing it forward more though.

Landing switch in powder is different, because landing in pow switch, taking a couple turns switch then turning around is very sick.

why do you say that?

5 years ago i bet people thought no one would ever do giant 180s off cliffs, or have skis that raise way before the tip and tail, or ski powder well without poles

but that all happened.

hey fuck, i wasnt knocking it, i asked if it was a fucking, why cant people read and comprehend shit...i ASKED if it was a waste or not...i never said that i wasnt ever goign to do it, just not with a pair of CORE mounted ARVs...dip shit
