Switch help

i just started skiing switch the other day, and i was having a little trouble linking turns. i know you are supposed to drop your downhill leg back a little bit so you can lead with the downhill ski, which makes you able to see over your shoulder easier, but i find that i turn to much, and end up sideways or even turned back around. should I try and look over one shoulder? should i be leaning into the turns more, or what?any of you guys have any tips?

its your first time doing it dont expect great things. switch is something that comes easier and easier with practice. just keep at it and you'll be slayin your whole mountain switch in no time

Just rip around everywhere you can switch. The more you do it, the more comfortable you'll become and the better you'll get at it. Just like everything else in this sport, it takes practice.

switching which shoulder you look over between turns might help, as well as maybe not waiting so long to arch your turn(then you wont end up completely sideways)

switch recently clicked for me and i was having the same problem as you, just turning too much and stopping or turning around.
so something which i read which helped was try to remember that feeling you get before you either stop or turnaround. and then just before you feel it again switch your leading leg and start your next turn.
hope that helps.

ive never had trouble with turning to much it was always not turning at all haha but it got better if you just practice. Rip around the mountain in switch like everywhere you can

Dont try and lean too much, make sure your not just staggering your feet but turning your shoulders all the way sideways. Do that and try skidding your turns. That way you can speed check which will help you feel more comfortable and you can just mess around and figure it out

thanks guys +karma to any good answers....but what were you sayin with leaning? like dont lean too forward or too much into the turns (like sideways)? cuz i feel like when i turn my shoulders alot my skis just wanna turn around haha...sorry im pretty bad at switch

swivel your hips instead of just your shoulders, that along with a staggered stance if youre not already doin that

this is gonna sound cliche but practice does make perfect. everytime you get a good opportunity try riding switch. practice carving, stopping, looking and of course reverting back to forward. I guarantee you if you just spend one day riding switch a lot you will basically have the essentials down then keep working on it and you'll be a pro in no time!
and this might seem lame but don't be afraid to take a few runs on daisy and try riding the whole thing switch. thats how i learned.

dont lean to much into the turn. but even just turning your shoulders, head and stagering your skis will make you turn (at least it does for me)
