I was fortunate enough to travel to Mammoth this past Thursday night to ski Friday and Saturday on a pair of Surface New Life's brand new outta the plastic. Mounted them at 2cm back from boot center and I don't regret it at all. Personal :: Background Info

6'0" Tall :: 225lbs :: Skiing for 20 years :: East Coast Native (Whitetail where you at?!) :: Relatively Aggressive, but I am NOT the best skier on the mountain (I am the 1st to admit it).

Here are some pics of the kit :: ///surface New Life 184 :: 151mm / 121mm / 151mm

This was my first experience on a pair of rockered skis and naturally I was a sceptic. Ever since the idea was launched years back I was doubtful that they would ever work in everyday conditions. Naturally I feared how rockered skis would manage on hard pack. To my pleasent suprise, the New Lifes held an edge that inspired a lot of confidence.

The following video was taken on a run called WallStreet -- which is a "more difficult" run at Mammoth labeled as a black/blue diamond. It was well groomed and relatively uncrowded. On this particular run my GPS posted the reading of 46mph. Forgive the shaky video, I was holding my iPhone in one hand as I tried to pay attention to it and the slope at the same time.

In the end I am confident in saying that these skis far exceeded my expectations! Weight was not an issue and was hardly noticeable. Eventhough I mounted at almost center, I felt that due to the skis sidecut and shape I needed to mount them in more of a freestyle position.

Riding around the entire mountain on a pair of New Lifes sparks a lot of conversation with people on the lift and in the lodge, etc. If you are the type of skier who likes to have a pair of skis that are unique and get a lot of attention -- look no further!

Hope you enjoy the review.

rossi really blew it on those pivots color this year, they look flourescent. i thought that the hunter orange would have been sick.

they look good on the muted blue though

nice review. i was a skeptic of skis with no or little camber, then i had a fun few days on the crj, but id still rather have a ski with regular sidecut and camber.

anyone skiied these in the park yet? im lookin for a pair of pretty wide rockered park skis and these seem like they could be great. especially since surface's are usually really light.

whats the flex like? soft? stiff? compared to other skis?

I would say that they are somewhere in the middle. I have a pair of soft K2 Silencers, and a pair of Line Prophet 130 prototypes with a few sheets of metal in them. The New Lifes are stiffer than the K2s but a lot softer than the Prophets. However, they are about the same weight as the K2s but twice as wide. Also, they are rockered which automatically makes them feel a bit softer than a ski with traditional camber.
Lastly -- Those are Rossi pivot bindings, so yes they swivel all the way around -- so in the picture they appear to be crooked.
