Yo guys, Im getting back into surfing and looking to downsize my board but not sure if il struggle to catch waves, reckon a 7ft performance softboard would have enough volume for a 6ft 80kg man like myself, would be losing 30l of volume from my current board, interested to hear your thoughts

Soft boards or foamies or whatever one may call them are always going to have more than enough volume compared to a fibreglass board where the volume is so exact and unique to the board. Are there any surfboard shapers in your area? If so try go talk to them, you might even end up with a good deal or hookup.

What board where you looking at?

Soft tech are sweet, are there are any 6ft sizes?

How many liters is the new board? I’d say 7 ft is a good stepping stone from “fun board” territory to short board stuff even if it’s still a little long

get an odysea log 7ft

also if u don’t want to spend a lot costco sells a wavestorm soft top for like $100 that someone told me are pretty dece

Its 50l which is quite good, just stepping down from my 80l begginer board, so it will be hard to adjust too

A 6′2″-6′6″ will be perfect for you. In general, the surfing board needs to be higher than its owner for a hand, so it will be perfect for balancing on it. I have learned a lot of things about surfing in swellsurfcamp.com, and they explained to me that many people are saying that a long board is better for catching waves and cutting them. In fact, it is true, but it is essential to remember about your height and your weight because you can't balance on a board that is too short or too long for your body.

Personally I think you guys are delusional for even considering a board with that high of a volume, even if you're a large person. Where do you surf even? 80L to 50L is still cruise ship tier no matter how you look at it.
