SuperUnknown XIII Semi Finalist Votes

Who did you vote for in this years Superunknown to make it to finals?

I thought that everybody killed it and that this was such a heavy semifinal heat, I had a really hard time voting. For me in the end it came down to Robert Szul who had insane style, Vinzenz Keller with some really unique backcountry lines, and Evan Furbeyre who had some mind-blowing creative tricks. I ended up voting for Vinzenz Keller as a finalist, what about you NS?

Yeah the entries cut short for me too but it was for all of them so I just thought level 1 cut them or something. I had a really hard time deciding between Quinn Wolferman who has such sick style and some of the illest dubs but Aleksi (idk his last name) had some of the dopest dubs and he had such a variety of tricks and I think he did a bio 8 out of a rail which was unreal. Also I think he had a really cool cork 5 tail that looked dope so I went with Aleksi. They were all unreal edits full of bangers tho.

Annoying that every edit ends in middle of trick. Aleksi Patja had lot of tricks with great style, so my vote went to him. I also liked Evan Furbeyre's buttery style.

Vinzenz Keller was the only one who actually had real skiing on real snow in real mountain. #makeskiingrealagain

I had a hard time deciding between Quinn, Sam, Josh and Evan. I ultimately went with Sam. Just thought he had a little more style then all the others.

Can someone please tell me how you can't not vote for this edit? Those pillow lines were fucked. And the entire edit slayed.

Anyways, big ups to Jacob Hyllengren, Guate Foss, Calvin Barret and Josh Wong for actually having urban in their edits. Shit is so much more impressive to watch than watcing kestone and breck shots over and over again.

Level 1, new rule for next year okay. Only half of your edit is allowed to contain shots filmed in the park. The rest have to be in the back country or urban. Great, got that sorted now.

I wanna see Zahner throw down at finals so bad, lots of reused footy but still got my vote

Ah, the kid that has the nigga nigga what what song in his edit. Good song choice...

Kid that gives no fucks skiing hard in pow should win this. He goes hard.

the fact that hyllengren is amongs all of these edits is pretty ridiculous, his edit was so much better

Can't help but agree with this, only edit that was an actual urban part, among primarily all park edits. Finalists must be crazy, if not I'll have to disagree with that decision

Came into the website pissed at seeing both Sam zahner and Quinn wolferman as semi finalists cause I love them both and I hoped that at least one of them would've made it to the finals. But I proceeded to watch the edits in order.

Was blown away by furbeyres edit. Every other shot was a banger and his abilities are so diverse. Then I eventually came to Quinn's and sams edits and I have to say that I was a little disappointed by both. While crazy sick, a lot of Zanhers shots were reused and so they just were significantly less impressive considering I've watched them over at least 3-4 times each. And I don't know why but unfortunately Quinn's edit didn't quite blow me away like I thought it would... It was still really sick but I was expecting absolutely amazing which is a little ridiculous to ask.

I was finishing up the rest of the edits while trying to figure out how I would choose between Sam Quinn and Evan until I clicked on the last one-vinzenz. That shit blowed my mind! Backcountry skiing has never really appealed to me because it seems so boring and like nothing special but something about his edit... I don't know what the hell it was... Just something about it immediately made me love it. Whether it was the camera angles or the different style (more aggressive and energetic as opposed to the layed back chill attitude of most bc edits) I just loved it!

I have liked bc edits in the past but nothing more than liking them. Kinda like a "whatever it was cool" feeling at best. So when someone can spark such a great interest in something I had NO interest for in only a 1-2 minute video, I just have to give them the vote.

Absolutely new and captivating approach to backcountry and for changing my view on that side of skiing completely, I just have to give this man mad props! Anybody else feel this way?

Oh my goodness. That guy is definitely not afraid of taking speed into his pillow lines. He goes HUGE. 95% of the time there was a decent landing that he just said screw it and sent it to gucci. Only complaint I have is that his skiing seemed a bit erratic and out of control compared to a lot of the other backcountry skiers. That may be justifiable however considering the lines he was hitting.

Except for the fact that he looked like he was trying to bitch slap ghosts the entire time.

I'm surprised more people aren't mentioning Calvin Barrett. Kid had a few NBDs on some popular Denver spots and a super well rounded edit.

Freddie Grann's ender was FUCKED but as for the rest, let's be real here, there will only ever be one LSM.

Kirk Scully had some sick and unique BC features, that takes a lot of work.

Jacob had by far and away the best production value and is probably the most stylish of the bunch, but (and I can't believe I'm saying this) I wish he would have included some of his jump shots because he has one of my favorite jumping styles.

Vinzez was a fucking madman and as soon as he calms his arms down and gets a little stronger will be a force to be reckoned with. He probably has the brightest future of the group, few people realize the effort and work ethic it takes to film a BC segment.

Josh Wong had some super technical tricks, but he looks like some strange LJ/Will love child (not that it's a bad thing, it just throws me off) and he is fucking annoying on this site and facebook.

Zahner is sick but he needs to save his shots if he's planning on entering this, I feel like I've seen every one of those shots twice before in another edit.

I probably vote for Calvin. All in all I'm so fucking happy to see so much production value in each edit and such a high level of park and urban skiing. I haven't seen the finalists, but I'm guessing this is going to be the most talented crop of skiers yet. From a high level the ski industry is taking resources away from park and urban skiing and shifting them towards touring and "all-mountain" skiing and it just makes me so proud to see that kids are still getting out in the park and in the streets and filming with their friends. I'm fucking pumped for every single one of you, keep doing what you're doing (except Josh, do everything you're doing except making annoying threads about coaching and having so many melodramatic facebook updates).

My top picks

1. Calvin

2. Vinzenz

3. JHL - Freddie G - Sam Z - Quinn W - Kirk S, all equally rad.

IMO it's hard to vote for park edits, considering if you end up filming for level 1 it will be for urban or backcountry dope shit. There was some reused shit in there too but it's whatever. Vinz, Jacob, and Calvin imo have the best future and fit
