Superunknown X $$$/Contracts?!?!

baddest ass version yet. Berman is a fucking genius. i hope someone comes out of the woodwork to take it.

not to mention the madness that will go down at the park shoot! those kids are going to be throwing down trying to win over everyone

Probably the best way to settle the major controversies...put them all the in the same place at the same time, see who can throw down the hardest.

However, this does kinda take away from the backcountry/big mountain guys...

Meh...if you wanna ski urban with the Level 1 crew, you can hang in one of their superpark sessions, the previous winners have proven that (remember, the prize was always a trip to their superpark session....so it doesn't really take anything away).

seems viable.

keep in mind this is still gonna be based on the most popular vote in the crew. look at LSM, he had some of the best park shots from the movie. it's not like just because we're at a park shoot the kid with a triple and a mean mute is gonna win, we don't roll like that.

Yeah but Logan is the only BC kid to win Superunknown. However, I'm guessing they'll have to make a gnarly jib feature or two to find a winner. Otherwise, superunknown would be a big air contest with online qualification.

I doubt it'll be just one jump....like Logan said, that's not how they roll. Take a look at the Breck setup or some of their older superparks at Mammoth...not just a jump, but creative setups with tons of different ways to hit them.

^ I think hes kinda calling you out. haha and to be honest, you would be at a disadvantage in a park contest because your strength is in creative urban and big mountain skiing. But obviously level 1 is gonna pick the rider that fits with the crew and is the most fun to watch, not just who throws down the biggest huck in the park .

haha, you need to check your meter. of course i wouldn't have won, i would have gotten blown out of the water. in fact, i wouldn't have even gotten to go because of my college schedule.

well when i said that i had one person in mind, and no it was not you, but i don't feel like starting a shit show because at the end of the day you'er all still better then i am.

If they had that contest in the year logan won Vii, he would have had to beat out Tim McChesney , Alex Bellemare, Spencer Milboker, Austin Torinvin, Karl Fostvedt and Clayton Villa.

And do you bitch at stept for not having a good big mountain section? Or at TGR for not having a very quality urban section? Level 1 doesn't jump out as a huge big mountain company, and if they don't want to expand in that direction and keep going in the creative direction that they are, more power to them.

TGR and Level 1 are actually both pretty well rounded. Stept, idk what you want to call that, hoodrat city rollerbalding...

But my point was have this type of contest pretty much eliminates any big mountain people from entering.

I disagree. Having big mountain skiing in your entry makes you look well rounded which level 1 values alot. And if you are so focused on big mountain that you cant handle a park shoot, then you really shoudnt be there. Ya Level 1 has pow riders like Rainville and Delorme, but those guys can tear up a park shoot too.

exactly. If you can only do big mountain skiing, you shouldn't win the superunknown contest. If you can ski big mountain, and park, and urban, you have a much higher chance of making it to the final round. There aren't any skiers on level 1 that are specific to anything. Every single one can shred everywhere.

Also Logan and Parker can kill it in both. Plus you have guys like Hornbeck who have had some pow in past segments. I'm also willing to bet guys like Wiley, ad Bibby could hold their own in a park.

All that aside this is such a good idea. Now they get to see how all the entries compare side by side on an even playing field.

Brogan style was so much more expressive than any of those riders at the time. As long as the Level 1 crew is judging, I wouldn't worry. You're probably one of those kid that cried when LSM won last year SU.

who said anything about brogan ? I said logan lol. and I was just commenting on the conversation above when logan said he would have lost if the format had been like this when he won.

Also, I did not cry when LSM won last year, but like everyone else I was surprised. He did have a super good submission though. Turned out to be a great call.

Your argument does not really apply at all. My point was that Logan wouldnt have won with this new format, which I think is definitely true and even Logan admitted it himself. Regardless of style, or how good level 1 is at making picks, this changes how the contest works and who will win . Also, the superunknown picks themselves get a vote, so that changes things quite a bit.

Yup. Exactly what I was going to say. Look at Karl Fostvedt, his part in WE had such a good mix of urban park and backcountry/big mountain.

I think this year the edits will be wild, I can't wait to see them.

Why wouldn't Logan win? Precise answer? This isn't the dew tour.

I thought Logan wasn't very serious. He's got the balls to throw crazy shit on urban setups, I don't see why he wouldn't on the mountain. I doubt Level 1 wants to see another rail ballerina on the team.

Why wouldnt logan win? because he is an urban/pow skier , who is really not suited well for a park shoot competiton. The people I mentioned like McChesney, Fostvedt, Miboker and Bellamere are much better suited to a park shoot format and are equally talented, and therefore I believe they would beat him pretty easily. The super unknown contest of the past was a pure video submission, but adding on a week long park contest clearly favours park oriented skiers, even if level 1 values well rounded skills and style.

this contest sounds amazing and will certainly raise the bar. there are pros and cons for any format though.

dude, you need to read what i wrote up above. it's not going to be a winner take all big air comptetition. i'm hoping i can go (because i'd like to get some park shots this year, it's been years since i sessioned a big jump) and i can tell you that the video entries will weight much heavier than how well they spin on a 100' booter. i'm sure that everyone in the level 1 crew will agree with that.

it's an awesome opportunity for ALL of the finalists that eventually get picked, because they will ALL get exposure, rather than just the winner. even if they aren't throwing dubs on a massive jump.

Well you did say you would have gotten blown out of the water? So why would you have gotten blown out of the water? Sorry if i took something out of context

At the park shoot i would have got blown out of the water. who knows if my video would have held up after all of those dudes sessioned at a park shoot while i was up in alaska sitting on my nuts in concrete design class. i'm still shocked to this day that i took the title, that field was stacked with so much fucking talent.

Damn am I pumped to see this! I understand some peoples complaints that this will void out big mountain and creative urban skiers but if you look at the past 10 years the Superunknown comp winner was mostly featured in the park shoot part of the movie. Don't get me wrong, skiers like logan are part of what makes L1P amazing but I don't think theres anything wrong with finding another tom wallisch or chris logan strictly by their park abilities. They will evolve as skiers overtime.
