Superunknown finals will not be better than the runner ups

dont think so. NS Tv comp, superunknown, whats next? bitching at vimeo for not making your videos staff choice?

Im intrigued. I took this thread for a "I'm butthurt because my friends didn't win thread"

Also Brads and Briggs were super banger, Brads last shot blows my mind every time.

"I'm butthurt because my friends didn't win thread"

ya'll be straight trippppppppin. the purpose of this thread is to propose that judging style and technicality in a comp like this has become mad subjective. the winners won't necessarily be "better" than the current and future entries unless this is where the bar is set at

kids want to jump on the bandwagon of claiming we're sore losers. freed went on a stupid rant once but since then it's been easily accepted that judging a "free"style sport is an oxymoron

Spriggs:

"1975: racing is fucking weak and over regulated there is no freedom in it lets just go shred moguls

1998: moguls are fucking weak and over regulated there is no freedom in it lets go shred the snowboard park

2011: fuck yeah olympic halfpipe"

scurp the derp

This contest isnt being judged in the way that racing, moguls and halfpipe are judged. This is a totally biased contest to see who level one wants part of their crew. Judging with numbers and a formula may be an oxymoron but a private company trying to recruit a dude, hell this isnt even judging this is just picking favourites.

How the fuck else are you supposed to judge a video edit contest? And this is a recent development? Judging style/tech in a video contest has and will always be subjective. I'm sorry but you might want to stop posting because you sound dumber with each post.

Of course it's subjective.

This contest literally has nothing to do with who the best skier actually is. It's a contest that level 1 puts on so that they can pick the person who they feel will contribute most to their team.

How have you not realized this after so many years of superunknowns?

nah mang. you're saying that the thread is accurate but then trying to talk shit. evan heath got better eurlackers than you these days.

I'm agreeing with you in that it is subjective. What i'm saying is that there is no way to judge it other wise so why bitch about the results, which appears to be your motivation for this thread,

Glad people still be doin' Urlacher's even though he got cut by the bears. One of the greatest of all time.

motivation isn't to bitch about the results at all. this thread is preemptive. when finalists are released some ppl will disagree with the choices made. this thread is to acknowledge that these competitions are hard as fuck to judge and there's a lot more that goes into the judging process than the video entry itself

take for example simon ericson's win

I agree, I dont think the finals will be better then some semi finalists because I think I value going hard in the paint alot more then level 1

Bulzan and Briggles went very hard in the paint.

brad got jewed pretty fucking hard. nobody has ever dropped anything that big in an urban setting before. what was that like a 40 foot drop? level 1 can go fuck themselves.

Guess what?

The winner of superunknown isn't the "BEST" video, it's the video of the rider that Level 1 most wants to film with. They've got a pretty good idea of what they are looking for year to year to make their movie better.

The reason why this thread is irrelevant is because you don't run the contest.

What do I mean by that? You didn't start a company, turn it into the successful international production company Level 1 has become, able to support several employees and families, invent the contest, the rules and the prizes coming from sponsors for the winner/s, and then run it to make it bigger and better than the previous year while finding new dudes to film with and adding a ton of company equity.... all while making huge pushes for the career of everyone who makes semifinals, including your friends.

They have run this contest for years and years, They know what they are doing and what they are looking for. You might prefer a different sort of skiing than what they are looking for, but that doesn't matter because it's their contest, in order to film someone for their business, on which their livelihoods depend.

Great post. I have been surprised many times over the years by their picks. But I never blame them for not picking someone. They usually make pretty great calls too, and they usually pick unknown and unsponsored riders rather then ones that already film with the mid range crews.

be that as it may, i am still very butthurt that bradley nor sam did not make it to finals, and will continue to express that through hatred towards level 1. they aren't going to listen to my silly ass anyway.

You got it. It's L1's contest, they can do what they want. I thought everyone knew that it was biased, I mean, don't they have a right to be if they are picking someone to film and travel with?

theres too many good handrail skiers these days, people should be trying to start new legit video companies instead of trying to be the next skier to squeeze in with level 1. the hood crew has a bunch of really good skiers, but lets face it, their video production quality is shit. if they stepped there shit and tried to be a little more legit, maybe they could get some sponsor help and do their own thing...kinda like 4bi9 did

Yea, over the years there's been a lot of times that I wish they would have chosen one over another - i always have to remind myself that it's because they have an idea of what they are looking for.

Definitely bummed that Sam wasn't in the finals, I really think that he deserves a shot to have his skiing highlighted by someone like Level 1. People don't realize how good he is. Very bummed we won't see him in Sun Valley.

This, judging from FB posts Sam is just stoked to have made it this far, whereas Hood Crew is complaining.

I thought Sam's edit stood out way more than any of the Hood Crew entries IMO.

copy and paste of mine from the other SU thread

"This thread is out of hand, the finalists by no means are the "best skiers", they're the best fit for level 1. This contest isn't a slopestyle competition where the "best" video wins, its insanely subjective and it ultimately comes down to the personal opinion of 2-3 people.

I wouldn't worry about kids like Brad, they're going places. Hood Crew is just getting started I see Brad, brigs, etc even though they are only "semi-finalists" (Note, these are the #11-30 out of over 100 videos) they are going to keep skiing and get better and do their own shit. Tim didn't win superunknown, hes filming with L1P, neither did ahmet... I'm just saying, you don't need to win superunknown to blow up and be a good skier."

PBP should pick up Bulzan and Hurst

if i was PBP i would look on NS and see the guys everyone said should have made it and invite them to shoots

Level 1 pretty much does every company a favor through this probably. I knew if I was a team manager I would be checking SU every year.

LSM was supposed to be a finalist but communications got messed up so he was listed as an honorable mention by mistake.

Funny you say that. We have definitely used the superunknown contest as a way to find new talent for the team.

I hope you don't mean that other film companies should check out the superunknown madness every year on newschoolers to see who the skiers are that people are crying the most over to add to their crew.

Everyones so hyped on that shot but I felt the rodeo was sicker and he took it completely flat

seems like a skier trend to live vicariously through their friends in contests like this, shit is weird. gotta get over it.

That's basically exactly what I mean
I would want the skiers in my movie who the people that buy my movie really enjoy

hood crew straight murks but you guys seriously bitch and moan everytime you don't win something. Not exactly a quality L1 would want to even be associated with i'd imagine.
