Superunknown finalists are up!

Am I the only one who thought that there were better Semi-Finalists edits than, Emil Larsen's finalist edit?

no way emil should've gotten in there over zahner or quinn

Except you know, the urban shots.

If JHL had put jump shots in his edit I'm pretty sure him and Emil would be switched right now.

Too bad that gay arm swing completely ruins all of that

you could call afterbang or thug style gay and invalidate pretty much every superunknown winner with that logic

You obviously dont know what afterbang is

Brody had the best edit for sure, though I've really liked all of them so far, Kellan Baker did some really cool stuff. Simen's edit was nice but dabbing on every landing killed it for me.

YESSS! Simen made it. It's about time somebody recognized him he's been quietly killing it for a while now

lol why dont you explain how its any different from arm swing then, they are both the same basic concept.

or you know you could just say you dont like his style like a normal person

i still think Vinzenz Keller should be a finalist. That guy came out of now where and stacked shots in the backcountry that were heavy

Afterbanging like a boner is gay too. I saw none of the finalists do that.

That was my point you dumb fucking day walker. In all these edits theyre just riding away

So far, these are some of the weakest finalist entries I've seen. The skiing in them is definitely great but since when did super unknown become a park skiing contest? I look forward to watching these entries every year to see short but heavy urban and backcountry parts. If I wanted to watch park shots I'd just go and watch any one of the hundreds of jaw dropping park edits on this site.

Agree.

Just got a boner from watching Emil Larsen's entry. Just too fucking beautiful, the shots, the angle, the tricks, the music, everything was on point.

Not that a song makes or breaks an edit but Siver Voll really let me down. I loved his skiing which was a combo of wicked tech tricks and wicked style but Rae Sremmurd actually makes my ears bleed.

Super-park-known

I was just thinking that myself....I feel 3-4yrs ago the finalists were throwing out banger edits, where to even make the finals you had to pretty much have little to no park shots...I will say a lot of these riders make up for it with their insane style.

I agree with you. I would completely rather watch a backcountry or urban part for the most part.

That said, many other great (even winning) superunknown parts have been park edits and many people haven't complained about that. Jonah Williams, etc, etc have been park. Obviously they have the style and skill to really stand out. Hell, if Jake Carney put a superunknown in it will probably be all park and no one (including me) will really care because his style is so great.

I'm not wording this well, but park in an edit can be useful to show style and skill that the skier wouldn't have been able to. It doesn't preclude them from being good at shooting urban or such for a future Level 1 segment (Jonah Williams).

For another example from this year, if Simen Gjelsvik didn't have park in his edit, he would not really have been able to show the full capability of his skiing (in my opinion).

My argument is that if these dudes are filming a part with level 1, it's not going to be in a park. Of course they'll have some super park style shoot but their part is going to have to be urban and/or backcountry otherwise. If they can't show that they can hold their own in those two environments I don't see why they should have a place in this contest.

Here's my take on the super-park-known complaint. I understand those of you who aren't hyped on this because of how its been the last few years. I too enjoyed having heavy street parts all in one place every spring.

Here is why you aren't seeing that if I had to guess: People are saving their shots for their own projects they had planned. Level1 isn't the only way to get out there anymore. In the current state of things you can get yourself on screens around the world with ease of you got the juice like that. The effort that goes into filming a full street part is crazy. If I had one I would not drop it trying to win super unknown and I think anyone who has spent time in the streets can see my reasoning.

The good news is that most of these finalists and semi finalists probably got after it this year in the streets or BC and kept those clips for themselves. I know a few of them have def done that. So go support their skiing when it makes it online. Watch all the small movies that come out every fall. They could be the next Stept or the bunch or HG. They will have the street shots you wanted to see.

Anyway, SuperUnknown finals is a park shoot. So at least that aligns with what we are seeing for finalists.

Yeah you wouldn't want to blow the banger shot from a 10 minute free online edit that people will forget about in a month.

I would love to see what level 1's definition of "superunknown" is

This debate has come up every year and it's still stupid...

Please - enlighten me to these unknown riders who should be in this contest, oh wait, we've all heard of them too. The Internet has changed this contest without the rules ever changing, everyone is known by the time they're good enough to make it to the finals of this contest. Level 1 makes it pretty clear what the rules are, and so far no one who has made it to the finals or won the contest has broken them. So can everyone please stop bitching about how this contest isn't full of "unknown" skiers. It's really old.

I would absolutely love to see Brody win just because a burrrlapz segment in a level 1 movie would be sick but in reality Keegan has this shit won already

Acting like an idiot who feels their shots are worth more than they are vs. someone who isn't retarded and realizes their best shots should be used and its not a big deal if they're then featured in another edit down the road because no one cares enough to notice.

Missing the point. External factors aren't important.

Really surprised I didn't see Sam or Quinn in the finals because they are both the types of dudes who are insanely fun to watch, moreso than the other finalist edits I watched.

Honestly Zahner doesn't belong for superunknown because its just heaters in the park, no urban really, and doesn't have any BC madness. He kills the park but thats not what makes a Level 1 movie hate to say.
