You're right about that. This is the essence of fake steez and is what turns skiing from something people who do it and otherwise can take seriously into a farce.
What is the difference between skiing and dancing? When you look at each of them at the basic physical level, they are the same. You put on your dancing shoes, and you dance. You put on your skis, and you ski.
It's easy to see what is wrong with Jon Brogan's skiing if you just take off your "that's sick" goggles and look with plain eyes. I use the word "wrong" to mean ugly, unnatural, forced, not beautiful, trying to force an idea of what style is into everything you do while overlooking the flowiness of what you're actually doing with your body, etc. I have to say, Jon Brogan's skiing has more potential than almost any I have seen out of ns or elsewhere, but what it comes down to is this: for me to be stoked on Jon Brogan's skiing, or anyone for God's sake, all he has to do is be aware of what he is doing, and follow it, instead of trying to impose something outside of the moment onto it.
I don't know. It's pretty simple. It's not a matter of "he's been skiing that way forever, it's not forced," it's a matter of not forcing yourself to do something your body and all the laws of physics are unhappy with.
