Sunshine - Summer

I did the Healy Creek hike at the end of June a couple of years ago. 22km bottom to top to bottom. Basically it's from the sunshine parking lot to just beyond Wawa ridge. There was a tonne of snow up on the Divide still.

Question: Does Parks Canada/Sunshine allow people to tour/ski up on Sunshine "propert" during the off season? Anyone know for sure? Also, does SSV destroy their park, or do they just pack up the hardware and leave? Any real info would be appreciated. Spankz.

The park crew tears down the park, but its not completely torn down yet. You're not allowed up there right now without permission.

I think it all depends on the year. Last year 1st week of july I was backpacking in Assiniboine, which is about 15-20 km from sunshine (you can see it from shine). We hiked up Nub peak which is same elevation as Divide, and there was about a foot of shitty permasnow. So I don't know how worth it it would be to hike up sunshine.

That's uber gay. I know they can't stop you from being in the National Park, but didn't know if Sunshine was considered part of the Park or not.

Ya, Assinboine would be a crazy friggin' hike.....not worth it. Though I think you can bike up near Assinboine. Biking with skis on the back might be harder than one thinks. Do some lines, rip back down. Hmmm.

Yeah Assiniboine is pretty intense hike. There is only 5k that is really hard, but its super long. And you used to be able to bike in, but not anymore. Which is a damn shame.

Yes you can hike up and ski when the hill is closed. When its open you can skin up the ski out and ski anywhere that is not closed as long as you don't use the lifts. SSSV charges people for using the lifts without a ticket with tresspassing. Watch out for trucks in the summer on the road and skidoo's in the winter as most drivers don't expect to meet many people on the road. Good runs can be had till the end of Juneish.

Does anyone know if you're legally allowed to bike up the ski-out trail up the village area?

Hell, they have buses and cars going up there. Why not bikes?

I know you can't bike on any trails up there.

Yes you can bike up the ski out but there is construction on the hotel this summer and alot of truck traffic so I won't bother.

me and maximumsushi were talking about heading up to sunshine to take a few laps through the park. apparently the park crew leaves some of the features up for a little while. But ye there is a lot of construction going on up there right now so you would most likely have to either hike up wawa and go around or past teepee town.

I really wanna go ride up there if anyone else is down though it'd probably be prety sick and they are suposed to get some snow real soon.
