For

the past two years Sunday River has been the first resort in the East

to open, doing so on Halloween both times, and today, they’re staking

the claim once more opening a full 13 days before Halloween and every

other East Coast ski area out there. Sunday River will offer free

skiing and riding this afternoon until 3:30 p.m!

Sunday River received three inches of natural snow

yesterday, October 13, and has used this and the cold temperatures this

past week to make enough man-made snow to open.

“Cold temperatures and advanced snowmaking

technologies including tower guns and fan guns helped us open,” said

Dana Bullen, Sunday River General Manager. “Opening ahead of the pack

is a great treat to offer skiers and riders across New England and

we’re proud to be able to stake this claim for a third year in a row.”

Tomorrow, lift access will begin at 9 a.m. and

will remain open though Sunday, before temporarily closing for the

following midweek period.

Open terrain includes the upper mountain and is for advanced skiers and riders only.

Lift tickets starting tomorrow will be $25 for all ages, and can be purchased out of Barker Base Lodge.

Lift access will be on the Locke Mountain Triple.

Additional trails may open for the weekend depending on temperatures

and snowmaking. Updates and conditions reports will be posted online at

www.sundayriver.com.

so excited see you on Saturday funday river

we just called sunday river.

they said they dont know if they will have any rails up.

and if we brought our own, they would clip our passes and confiscate the rail.

thats lame, but id be willing to bet that they will have a box up

and i bet if enough people set up and were using a rail they wouldnt care

my threads. If they set up a rail this weekend, I'll be there. Otherwise I'm waiting.

im sure no one on here is really that concerned about this, but it kinda pisses me off that Boyne keeps firing employee's and cutting/merging positions for money reasons and forcing employees that still have their jobs to go on breaks during shifts so that they dont have to pay them as much, yet they manage to spend all that money on snowmaking so early in the season and chances are its gonna melt anyway (they are closing next week during the early week...) Yes i understand that its really great marketing for them to be open that early in the season and be the first resort open, but i doubt that its really gonna pay off in ticket sales etc. /rant

they usually have rails right off, maybe not awesome setup but they will have rails im sure. im gonna be there fri and sunday!

This makes me so sad sometimes. Its opening day and people want rails on command. Sure it would be nice, but then sure it would be so fun to go make turns and butters and ski switch as well. If there were like a 5 foot flat bar im sure it would be packed.

anyone who is foing up saterday, if your willing to drive me ill give gas$. Im in standish at St Joes

pleeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss PM me

We're Open!

That's right - for the third year in a row Sunday

River was the first resort in New England to open for the winter

season. A three-peat victory thanks to our legendary snowmaking, and

snowmakers.

We've been skiing and riding on upper T2, serviced

by the Locke Mountain Triple, since Wednesday, October 14 and will be

adding a mini-park with a couple rails for the weekend. Lifts will

turn starting at 9am through Sunday with the last chair loading at

3:30pm. Lift tickets are $25 and open terrain is for advanced skier

and riders only.

If you missed the opening day celebration, check out our opening day video or, live vicariously though our fans on Facebook and Twitter.
