Sunday river is open

There is supposed to be a slight warm front next week but even at 60 degrees it will take a while for a good base of snow to melt. After next week it's only going to get colder. You're just jealous the east is the first to open

Yeah. You're right. But keep in mind it is a La Nina year meaning PNW as well as the rocky mountains will receive above average snowfall depths and cooler temps. If I remember correctly, last time there was a la nina season, the east coast had below average snowfall and above average temps meaning very short seasons.

Hehe theres no way any one from the west can win an argument about this sucking. East Coast wins today

I'm not hating. I actually think its really cool the east coast has already touched snow before A lot of west coasters. Congrats on the EC being the first to open.

in typical sunday river fashion they don't give any advanced press release they just release it on the website and the wildfire starts.

just to make sure no one anywhere pulls a quicky and opens before them. If they released it that they were opening A basin or loveland or K may have done a hurry up and open. This is something they do very intentionally.

All I have to say is Sunday River always does this, they love to claim opening first... and when they do, it is 100% pure shit... I hate how they get enjoyment by making one shitty trail of 45% mud 45% rock and 10% snow and open it for a weekend thinking its BITCHIN ASS SHIT HOMIE

skiing is skiing man, i dont' care if I hit a dirt patch here and there. learn to love the sport and not take it for granted

haha this is not skiing... i have gone opening day at sunday river for many... many... many years... I use to enjoy it when i was young and ignorant and didn't understand that 200 yards of mud wasnt skiing... I mean i guess if you're truly desperate enough to drive how ever long it takes and take a couple runs on dirt until you realize you made a fatal mistake on wasting your time... learn to love skiing? what are you talking about

This thread is just going to turn into an east vs west eventually so I mise well add something to it. That's the difference between east coast skiers and west coast skiers. In the east we don't give a shit how much snow there is or if there's mud or rocks. We're just super stoked were able to ski and get back together on some snow with our buds. Who cares how much snow you have, as long as you are enjoying yourself all is good! It seems like people hate on the east because we don't get as much snow and we don't have as big of mountains as the west. But seriously, what we lack in elevation and snow, we make up for with having a super hardcore ski scene with positive vibes all around.

to me any skiing is better than no skiing. people wait all summer for their first turns of the year. Obviously the sooner the better, if you don't want to go, don't go plain and simple. It'll make the lift lines a lot shorter for those that love skiing regardless of the "shitty conditions"

Amen! Like you said, skiing is skiing to me too. And a day skiing on mud and dirt with some snow is just like a backyard session anyways, and I love those too

Im not going, I'm finally out west now where im waiting for a mountain to open with snow, real snow, snow that you actually ski on... I dont know why you keep bringing up loving to ski, who ever said I don't? I guess I just grew out of that little gremlin stage thinking that hitting a knocked over crooked box on mud was dope... tell me how it is though
