Sunday River blowing snow

like 99% sure they'll be open by then... im planning on going halloween weekend if possible... if not then the weekend after that
 
doubrful, thats way too many guns for juust publicity snow. Last season they opened around this time. I bet they plan to open very early
 
I dont know much about what it takes to blow snow, but based on this http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=44.46153683560693&lon=-70.87512016296387&site=gyx&smap=1&marine=0&unit=0&lg=en it should be cold enough to make snow every night all week, and probably after that. and if they can get enough on the ground at night, it wont all melt the next day. Have you ever skied sunday river early season? the conditions they stay open with are pretty damn sketchy so i wouldnt be surprised to see them keep at it and get it open pretty soon. I remember this time last year when they first started blowing and everyone said the same thing, then they randomly opened in the middle of the week. you never know.
 
it doesnt take much... they usually test there snowmaking at south ridge then blow on t2 when they are trying to get stuff open. my suspicion is that they are taking afew nights adn seeing how much they can get.
 
I dont think anyone wants to get into an internet argument. We're just saying dont necessarily count them out is all. All the temps at night are pretty much 32 or lower for the next week, so it shouldnt be that hard to blow even if just at night. Again though im really just talking out of my ass.
What i can say for sure though, is my first day at sunday river last year ( think it was the weekend before halloween), it was probably about 60 degrees during the day, and trail coverage was awful, but they stayed open, so it really doesnt take much.
 
I think it takes about 3 days, or 36 hours of snow making to cover a a run. That's assuming none of it melts during the day.
 
Total promo. If you look at the photos, they barely coated the ground with any snow. Super high air content which means that the temperatures were very marginal. Equivalent of a heavy frost basically.

Does it get us excited and show that the season is just around the corner? Absolutely. Does it mean Sunday River will open next weekend? I wouldn't hold your breath.

Also, looking at their forecast, I wouldn't expect much, if any, useful snow production this week.

Still exciting though and ski season is right around the corner!
 
every resort does it, should've listened to twa he knows his shit. even if the low is 32 at night, it's only 32 for roughly a few hours, and yes while it's possible to blow snow at 38, it's an ungodly waste of money and quite pointless. it's all about wet bulb temperature basically meaning that if it's 38 and the air humidity is about 0 they can blow snow, that doesn't mean it will necessarily stick to the ground though.
 
My bet. Sunday River was probably just getting some snow out there. With that being said if the temps are low enough I am willing to bet they will go for it soon and they have a proper window they will begin really making snow. The lows for a couple nights this week were 25 degrees. That is definatly cold enough to make some quality snow. However, it is near impossible to blow snow much warmer than 32 degrees and quite pointless. However, if none of you work for sunday river or make snow for a living Curtis has been around sunday river a while and knows how they run things.
 
unfortunatly i talked to someone who works there and they are a few degrees off from making it accumulate well enough for the trails to be open :(
