Summit Central: Mountaineers

Hey guys,

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. This weekend at Summit Central, there have been ski patrol posted up taking away everyone's passes who are ducking lines into the Mountaineers Run which is skiers left from the top of the Triple 60 chairlift. Some people are even saying that they're on "stakeout" hiding behind trees trying to catch people.

I know it seems like a no brainer that if you duck lines, they'll take your pass, but they usually don't patrol that area, and apparently this year due to some lawsuits and other issues they're really cracking down, so watch out!

And I don't know why you'd be at Summit Central in the first place... but if you are, be careful.

Enjoy the new snow.

Yep, that happened to us today.

We (Abe and I) skied one epic lap through, went back up to do it again, and just as I'm about to duck the rope a patroller jumps out from behind some trees by the sign. He was like "don't go in there," of course we obliged. He wasn't a dick at all, in fact he was really reasonable. We told him that we are Mountaineers members, and he responded saying "that's fine, but you're going to have to contact the Mountaineers if you want access to this run," as he was specifically told not to let people through. I'm curious what's going to happen. I might end up contacting the Mountaineers to see if I can go through because I'm a paying member for an outdoors program at school.

He was posted like a cop with a radar gun, ready to nail anyone who went through.

There used to be a Mountaineers lodge in between West and Central, but the physical lodge was burned down. The Mountaineers still owns the tract of land though, and don't want people going into it, I guess?

It's a really fun run, but as Andrew said, we should probably stay out for a while...

Thanks for the heads up. My friends house is about where those runs come out, so we often take that line down. I'll have to scratch that now.

couple years back i picked up some random guy in a gnar storm up there. ended up being the mountaineers caretaker. he said i could come shred anytime i wanted. thats my excuse.

anyone wanna draw a circle around it on the trailmap for me? cuz im not quite sure what spot we are talking about and i want to stay out of there.
