My parents decided we MIGHT go skiing in switzerland for a week during the summer if its not too expensive. How are the conditions? Im guessing nothing terrain wise, but park-wise? And around how much would 7 days of skiing for a youth cost? does anyone know of any resorts so I can check out their websites? What resorts shoudl I check out?

i went for a race camp 2 yrs ago in august to stelvio pass... there wasnt really a park... just lots ov crevasses... and we got snowed out two days cause it was all foggy and they got like 2 new feet.

Saas Fee has a pretty good set up. The park is all they really have up on the glaciers, (apart from a couple of runs for slalom training) so alot of energy goes into building and maintaining them. In alot of cases the summer parks are better than the parks they have in winter.

Having said that, European parks are pretty poor in comparison to the ones you guys get in the US and Canada I think

I've seen a couple of europarks that dwarf even the HL park at Whistler... can't remember the names of the mtns though. Something French.

Nah, not here man.

They have a park at Les Crosets in Switzerland which they call the european superpark (www.superpark.ch) which is admittedly sick. But no where near the HL Park at Whistler, or any other of the major US resorts parks.

damnit mikee. fernie, and switzerland in the same year. you bastard.

so around how much is a place like tignes to ski at for one day for a child ticket? and is that superpark good in the summer too?

-Michael Lifshitz-

I dunno about in summer, but in winter Saas sucks for park man. Grund had a couple of rollers, that was it! Fee had NOTHING. The halfpipe was snowed in, wasn't rideable at all. And the kickers were still being built for the ripcurl event. No rails or anything. It sucked. I might pop over this summer though, check it out.

Tignes/Val D'Isere is your best bet, 'Killy' it's called.

Ok tignes sounds sick, and its not even expensive! So thats an option. How about the austrian alps as far as summer parks. My parents want something with good scenery but I might be able to convince them to go to tignes.

-Michael Lifshitz-

If scenery is what you're after, then I'm thinking Saas all the way man, it's one of the most beautiful places on earth!

Although the french alps are nice in places, 'killy' isn't famed for it's scenery. It's the biggest ski area in the world, by a long shot, and is highly commercialised with 60s architecture and industry covering all the valleys.

I'm not so sure on Austria man. Never been to be honest. Saas sounds like the right place for you though. France is cheap for a few reasons...

1. The Euro.

2. Lower quality

3. It's french, and that's bad when we compare them with the swiss!

Saas is the place for you man, here's a word of advice. Accomodation is cheaper in the valley, Grund. But there are regular buses up to Fee and you have the whole valley at your disposal rather than just Fee.

well scenery comes second after park... hahaha, hwo abotu that superpark place... is the park as good in the summer? Because I mean when i saw those pictuire on superpark.ch or whatever i blew my load... Is it anywhere as good in the summer? Because if so... thats the place for me. And fee's park doesnt impress me much.

-Michael Lifshitz-

I had never even heard of Les Crosetes before this thread man. The winter park does look good, but I've got no idea if it's a summer resort man.

Killy is probably your best bet for a park, but Saas is alright in summer. I'm going to go look for a holiday in crosets for next winter! :o

Haha on the crosets site it says they have summer skiing, but I just need to know if the park is still sick in the summer.

-Michael Lifshitz-

tignes tignes tignes tignes tignes tignes has a park park park is good. but if you like, go mountain biking in 3 vallees n ski glacier not so good in val thorens. but no tignes is the way to go.

If your biking go to Les Gets, Morzine and Avoriaz! Amazing riding there! World Cup DH standard trails all over the place!

Uh does anybody at all know of any other good parks other than itgnes? Im thinking that superpark place would be sooo sick and its open in the summer, but how is the park in the summer?

-Michael Lifshitz-

Alps had a late season this year, it was pretty varied. But we got a semi-decent dump around January, was late, but it filled most of the pistes. I had a good time in Switzerland in January and snow's been good since.

are there any remotely active sites like this for europe where I might be able to ask this and maybe get some more opinions?

-Michael Lifshitz-

Right, first Verbier isn't open in Summer. Tignés is probably the best for park in the summer, closely followed by Saas Fé (but i cannot personally rate it). Tignés has a huge park and pipe, but if you go around August then the conditions can get a bit sketchy (last year was a terrible year for summer skiing, but it was still possible). Below is a photo of last years park at the end of July, note that it was a terrible year for snow, and the pipe is out of view. You needed a big run up for the jumps, especially the booter on the right.

Theres a couple of other good Glaciers, but i can't remember their names. You'l probably find em on the web though.

i was just at tignes last week and the park this year is huge! but its not near the glaciers and im not even sure if that area is open during the summer.

the condition of the parks, or even the presence of the parks depends on the summer, last summer alot of the glasiers had to shut down cause it was too hot. so hope for a cold summer.

but if you might wanna check out hintertux and soelden, their both in austria but have decent parks during the season.

Les Crosets (superpark) is sick, and pretty quiet. But its only in the winter. Its too low for summer snow.

Les Deux Alpes in France has a good summer park. And is slightly more reliable for summer snow than tignes.

I've heard Hintertux in Austria is pretty good too.

Or Sheffield, or one of the indoor real snow slopes.

We have a cult that we set up for a few of us that ride in the uk and europe.

Not much going on at the mo as most people are away and not posting, but it could be quite cool once everyone is back and bored over the summer!

There are some dudes on there that know alot about the scene in europe. Message me if you're interested.

Mikee, www.theboarder.co.uk (sorry, its not a link, you'll have to copy and paste) has a forum.

Its a snowboarding sites, but people on there will probably know alot about where's good in the summer.

well Id be going in the middle of june so its not like late summer or anything, would tha tmena most places would be more open?

-Michael Lifshitz-

Only the resorts with summer skiing will be open in june, we don't have mammoth style seasons which go on till june!

The glaciers and parks will be in alot better condition though when you go, so that'll be a good thing.

rriiiight so as of now it seems like saas fee has the second best park in europe besides tignes in the summer?

-Michael Lifshitz-

I'm mates with the dudes that build the summer park in Zermatt. From what i've seen they have the best, including a 22 foot pipe. The majority of Europe's pros, including Jon, head to Zermatt for the summer.

oh hwat about les diablerets? I saw a picture a while ago in a amagazine and it looked rediculous, just likes a giant line of tables... and it seemed like it was summer.

-Michael Lifshitz-

Yeh les diablerets or however you spell it is meant to be really good. A Swiss dude whos working here skis there, and he's off there in the summer. Meant to be tight

-------------------

www.teamksm.co.uk

yeh les diablerets as got the biggest park... why dont you go to the southern hemisphere, go ski japan or peru or somthin, then it'd be winter

les diablerets is apparently pretty sick...

Smoking pot leads to uhh... I forget.

What's with all the hate?

ok, so les diablerets is sounding really good. Is the glacier itself big? or just the park or what? and is it a nice place?

-Michael Lifshitz-

Go to Australia =P reverse climate, hoho.. Norway sucks for summer skiing, would NOT recommend the trip here, but I guess it works for us already living here
