Summer ski storage

i know i posted this in a thread befor but i thought id post it in its own thread. This is the best thing you can do for your skis over the summer.

take a day after you season is done and melt on a generous portion of wax onto you skis and spread evenly. then reheat the wax about once a hour for like 5-6 hours. then just leave the wax untill you go skiing next winter. Then when you are going to go next season re-heat the wax one more time, let cool and scrape off. It is important to only do this after any major base hits have been filled in with p-tex or epoxy.

Ummmm, so what you're saying is that waxing your skis is good for them? Wow, you learn something new everyday!

No dumbass. He's saying it's a good idea to thuroughly permiate and protect ur bases over the summer, unless you want them peeling like a third degree sunburn by next winter.

Ouch man, that hurt. In all honesty, you deserve to have that done to your skis if you are idiotic enough to leave them outside for the whole off season. What are you retarded? If you leave them inside, there is no difference between what this kid suggests and just doing nothing at all about it.

he never said they would dry out and possibly peel if they were outside. it can happen inside too. do you not notice your bases are whiter (if its a black base) or just generally drier after the summer. the idea is to have so much wax on your skis so they dont dry out. the more you wax your skis the faster they get over time. you dont want them to dry out.

i've always put a coat of wax on my skis for the summer but i never knew that i should heat it up that many times. Thanks man, and skiierman, its better than not waxing them, not waxing them doesnt hurt the bases all that much but it's definately worth the minimal time to wax em and keep your bases nice.

ok skierman it does make a difference, your base's are like most other things, they can dry out over time. If you have a pair of skis that have black base's you will notice that they will become white over time if you do not wax them, that is because they have no wax left, that is bad for your ski. by having the wax on all summer you can allow the base to absorbe it and then you will get longer ski longevity.

seal them in an airtight chamber for best keep.

or just buy new skis each year like your suppose to

Re-melting wax does nothing for your skis. If anything, it dries out your bases more. The only way to get deeper wax penetration is to hotbox, or wax and scrape many times (about 15 wax-scape cycles gets a bases saturated). For summer, get a good layer on there and leave it on thick. Next winter, scrape it off then re-wax.

i work at skiers sport shop, and to the guy who sayed re-melting the wax does nothin but dry them out, srry man but thats not rue every thing else that you sayed is but re-melting the wax gets some more into the base, hotboxing it also works

yea man i got this tip from a guy who was on the world cup team, he works at out of bounds ski shop in edmonton for a few eeks evey year, he sayed it gets in better

i usually just use a crow bar and scrap off the entire base, including the p-tex then just throw down some new p tex and wax for the new season.
