Summer Fitness Apps

So I know many of the folks on here are trying to stay fit this summer. Some are trying to keep in shape for winter while others may be entering competitions for various sweat inducing activities but there is one thing I know everyone enjoys... competition!

I may just have found what you are looking for: Strava

Basically it is an app that you can install on your iPhone or Android (can also use Garmin devices, but that is better described on their website) that tracks your speed, distance, and route then archives it on their website ( www.strava.com ) Not only does this handy app help you keep track of your progress but it has leader boards for routes around your area.

I have just started on it and it seems awesome. I definitely recommend it to any cyclists or runners that are looking to keep track of their progress while being helped along by some social competition.

Also, if anyone currently uses it and wants to try and make a Newschoolers group that would be awesome!

Bonus: If you're worried about privacy they have an option to 'block' some areas (such as your home) if you end your ride/ run there it will mask it so others cant find where you live.

replace one of your meals by fruit smoothy and run for 15 min twice a weak. thats all the fitness you need, trust me. worked wonders for me

did you read my post? This is more of a friendly competition/ personal improvement thing than a general getting in shape thing (though it would definitely help get a person in shape).

maybe if you were fat and wanted to loose some weight. If your actually trying for something other than losing 10 LBS every month and a half you will have to do a liiiiiittle bit more than that..

Ive been going to the gym 4-5 times a week for the past year and a bit now, on top of mountain/road bike, wakeboard/surf, and running on top of a 50+hr week job. Ive found out, through trial and error, that with apps especially, you tend you stop using them after a week or so after the novelty wears off. NOTHING beats pen and paper, just because its extra shit you carry and thus feel the need to use it, rather than having it on your phone where you would have it on hand anyways, if that makes sense?

Just what Ive found out works best for myself. But in the case of running outside, I agree there are some dope tracking apps.

GET FIT NS!!

yeah, I definitely see that. I personally have been using my Garmin device to track all my rides so it is really easy/ convenient for me to be able to upload my routes and give my self some goals (ie: top 10 for a local hill climb) If you dont use a Garmin or similar device I can see it being less convenient for sure though. In the end it doesn't matter what the motivation comes from though, if it is there and people are trying to make them selves healthier than that is all that matters.

nah this is just the bear minimum for staying in shape. like i just got surgery and i cant do any sports for a couple months so i'm gonna do this to try to stay in shape. obviously this is not the best routine for weight loss, but its probably the easiest.

finally getting back into road biking. i did an organized 100 mile ride in early june, and without any organized training rides for that, i just stopped riding, just got back into it a couple days ago. i was sooo out of shape. i wish i had kept going instead of taking a month off.

but hey, better late then never

Great information for iPhone and Android users and will be of great help to keep their fitness journal and to meet their fitness goals. Besides regular in physical activities, we must follow diet plan formulated by physicians to meet body requirements and fitness goals.

I've been craving a bike ride so I downloaded strava recently. however due to our continued winter I havent been able to use it yet. I downloaded a gps app so I could map out trails around my house but strava sounds like a way to do that and compete against other people in the area. might give a good idea of where you would fall when races pop up for those areas.
