Summer camping trip

Yoooo! I’m in the process of planning out a sunmer camping trip with my girlfriend and am unsure about where we should go. We’re based in the Denver area and neither of us have been to the major national parks asides from Zion and Rocky Mountain, and I was wondering if Yellowstone is 100p the move or if the good men and women of NS would recommend shipping it elsewhere (or adding on another destination).

Yellowstone is cool and all, but targhee national forest for sure! It will probably be less crowded too. The scenery is awesome here.

Many glacier campground in Glacier national park. Pick one of the hundreds of hikes you both feel comfortable doing and thank me later.

Also check out high alpine loop in Lake city,CO and oh be joyful campsite in crested butte.

Cannot in good conscience recommend any Utah national park during the summer besides maybe Canyonlands. You can for sure get away from other people but for the popular hikes anytime May-Aug you'll be literally holding handings with the guy hiking above and below you.

Go to the PNW. The rockies are great - utah to montana but honestly you can find similar beauty in CO. Go somewhere that's actually green if you haven't, it's well worth it.

Obviously get Nat Parks card which I assume you're planning or have. (good for a year, really worth it.

Hit a bunch of them. Nat parks are almost all worth going to once. Utah has some great ones near each other. There's some random dispersed camping near some of them, and just in general. Go see some shit, hike a bunch, go places you've never been, take the random dirt road, talk to strangers, have fun.

If you skate(even shitty) it's fun to have a board with you. So many skateparks everywhere. Can be a great way to stretch the legs and get another angle of the road trip.

We live in one of the most diverse countries for landscape. See as much as you can.

Hype hype hype!!!!! Should be a blast!!!

Also Zion is sweet. Not that big and can do it in a day, 2 days if you want. There's some camping a couple miles back from the main entrance up a dirt road that was decent. Don't sleep on Bryce canyon. Not that big but far less crowded than others and one of my favorite places. If you smoke weed or eat mushrooms, fairyland loop is pretty chill. I mean it's pretty friggin chill regardless.

Road trips are everything

Thanks g! Skateboard idea is huge I never thought about that. Also thanks for the fairyland Rec will definitely be housing some boomers and wandering around there for a while

Skip the national parks and find BLM and National Forest lands surrounding them to spend your time. You'll have a much better time.

Yeah man! There are sooooo many skateparks. I hit 31 or something on my last road trip. Don't get too fried in the parks where you can't function or anything. Just a cool hike. Pretty mellow but cool features. Bryce usually isn't that crowded.

Meh, there's a reason some of them are nat parks. There's a bunch of stuff in nat parks that you really can't find other places.

Sometimes the other spots go under the radar but saying the nat parks stull have some great hikes. If people haven't been to some of the good one's they def should still.

I'll prolly never go back to Zion because i hate permits and it was more crowded than i liked 5 or 6 years ago when i was there. Would still recommend it because it has some killer views.

I think it ends up being the "don't go to ski resorts, earn your turns, way better" debate. You can do both.

That's fair.
