Summer @ a National Park

Have any of you spent a summer working for a NP? Thinking about doing it for summer ‘19 (maybe Yosemite) and want to hear about your experiences.

What did you do, what were your hours like, living accommodations, did you have time to enjoy the park on time off, etc

I know a NSer worked in Toulumne Meadows (the high-elevation portion of Yosemite) this past summer. While I was there on a climbing trip I saw his car in employee parking at the store/grill many times with a NS sticker in the window. Never did figure out who it was.

I don't have much to say about work at a NP, but firefighting is a good route for seasonal wilderness work

I wanted to give this a shot at one point but I'm fucking terrible in the heat. I was more a cold weather guy for ever, but some of my head injuries fucked things up and I over heat super easy. Plus working year round in the cold, I feel it's probably not a good gig for me.

Seems like it would be an awesome experience and something we def need more people doing. Unfortunately doesn't seem like the wildfire issues are going to get any better. I hope they do, but I ran into several good sized ones just driving this year.

Little Yosemite backcountry ranger internship

Good shout on this. Looked it up and found a lot of really helpful information on the site. Will definitely at least apply
