The brother of the girl I've been with for the past four years just killed himself. What do I do?

Nothing you can so or do that will make it better for anyone.

Just be there for support.

Fucking terrible.

Life is too much sometimes.

This fucking sucks. He was only 21 years old! He just got back from a tour in Afghanistan 2 months ago. He was really a great guy. Their dad died a couple years ago too so this hits super hard.

That really sucks, thoughts and prayers for the family.

Did he have PTSD or something?

I'd assume so. Well have to wait and see what he says. I've seen a couple people in my town take their life cuz of PTSD. Said that the people who protect us have to suffer so much.

just listen to her problems man, try to get her to think about other stuff but if she wants to talk about it you should because it will mean alot to her. vibes.

This. +vibes to you, OP, and her

Just be there for her. Don't let her blame herself as mentioned above. That's really big. Also, just being a shoulder to cry on will help to make her feel less alone. Be there when she needs you, and give her space when she needs it. It's gonna be hard for her, don't give up on her. That's so sad, + vibes to you, your girl, and her family.

From someone who struggled with depression for a couple of years don't try to give advice. Just be there for a shoulder to cry on. The last thing you want someone to do is tell you what to do.

Terrible to hear bad news like this, vibes bro.

smash her

are you serious?

but really, there is not a whole lot to do. Thats a terrible thing for someone to go through, and you being with here will probably help and comfort her. Just don't try to relate to her, unless you really do know what she is going through; but if you dont, nothing pisses me off more than someone acting like they know how you feel.

So just be there for her every need, and give her some space/alone time for sure

Are you kidding me? There's a time and place to fucking troll and a thread about a family member who just committed suicide is not the fucking place.

dont assume that the root is PTSD from afghanistan. could be a million other things. Just because some one is/was a soldier doesn't mean they are a risk/time bomb/ mental health case/ or war torn soldier that came back with PTSD. Service Members don't want to be seen that way.

I still respect this guy and his service. It saddens me to see soldiers give up.

As for the girlfriend and family... I would say don't try and relate to the situation. Don't say how horrible it is. Express as much love and care as possible don't poke and prod feelings out. Be there for support, love and joy. Understand it might not be anything they want to talk about for awhile.
