Suggestions on Manfrotto tripod head

Hello Media and Arts,

I'm currently in the process of looking for a fluid tripod head. Right now my two main comparisons are:

1) Manfrotto 501HDV Pro Video Head

2) Manfrotto 701HDV Pro Video Mini Head

What are the two main differences here between one being a mini head and the other regular? If I'm going to spend the money on it should I just go for the 501 because it will be better down the road in terms of being able to support more weight?

Also, the reason I'm looking for a manfrotto is because I have a QR plate for my glidecam and want a tripod that I can easily put it on without having to remove the plate.

Thanks a lot M&A! I will give karma for helpful answers!

I've owned both and currently use the 701. Don't expect to be blown away by either head, as neither is spectacular. However they do the job fine. I'd recommend the 701 because it is just as fluid (if not moreso) and much smaller. The main reason i use the head is because of the size. If i was willing to carry around something bigger I'd probably invest in a nicer tripod. That being said, I travel a fair amount, so depending on how much moving around you do this might not be an issue for you.

Alright thanks man! I definitely do a lot of moving and am right now just looking at trying to attatch it to my poor quality legs. (maybe I'll upgrade those later) I didn't consider the size of having to move with it a lot an pack it around

Selling this for 40 shipped if anyone is interested. It's a fluid head, similar motion to my 701
