Successful sponsor me videos

i know theres already a thread with peoples vids, but what about the guys who acually got sponsered with em? anybody who sent their video to a company and got sponsered with it, post it!

i am in no way trying to hate now but just search bar some videos and see what is good and what isnt in the sponser videos. also i feel like people will get noticed more off several edits of them killing it over time rather than one video kinda begging

yea there's not an exact formula for getting hooked up with a company. honesty the best way to show videos to potential peeps who would possibly hook you up is to post the on NS....lots take notice here

i kind of disagree with that. personally, i get way more hyped on a single video taht leaves the person thinking "where the hell did this guy come from!?" rather than 10 mediocre edits through the season. the shorter and more banger/less filler, the sweeter.

Fuck sponsor me videos. You need to get out there and get some results. Enter comps. Win them. Its the only way to get noticed. Get your name out there.

I dont think Allen has won many comps, there are other ways to get exposure and if your getting it thats what a potential sponsor will like.

Im the one who signs off on sponsorships dickhead.

Its about getting your name out there. Go to movie premiers, talk to people. Dont look like a retard in tall tees. Most of this industry is still run by TGR type folk and they hate tall tee ganster shit.

There are alot of kids out there who can throw down, you need to stand out. Its like applying for a job, because essentially it is.

This kid Tom sent a video to this company Level 1 and he got some sort of deal out of it

Level one makes movies. Unless they gave him a spot in a film, what did he get out of it? A hoodie or something.

I will half disagree with you. I originally got sponsored because a local ski shop had some guys talking about me (I was one of three twin tip riders at the time) doing corks and landing switch and going out to hit hand rails with the boarders. So when I was in there they told me a rep was looking to hook a local kid up and he wants to see a video. So I got hooked up originally with out any results and only a video.

That being said it's a combination of competition results, pictures, video and contacts that I beleive have kept me hooked up and slowly advanced my position over the years.

I have nothing against level one. Yes i realize who you are talking about. But what does level one do? They are a film production company. Yeah they have hoodies, hats, and tees, but they are all made by different companies. Yes, twall blew up because of level1, but he is one in a million. He has what someone was looking for, aside from the riding. Hes not a douche, an elitist fuck, like most of ns seems to be lately.

Kids these days need to realize riding has less to do with it now. Anyone can just go out there and spin to win. Its about style, both on and off the hill.

That's a joke right? Tom is everywhere right now because of superunknown. Sure, he could have done comps and filmed with 4bi9 but he would have barely got noticed last year if not until this year. He got into big comps because he blew up with level one.

Thinly veiled sarcasm, but i guess that was too much for people to handle. What it comes down to is, do it right, or not at all. You need to make a kickass video that will stand out. You dont want to get stuck in the mess of thousands of videos

Well in the case of sending sponsor videos, i agree with you. You might get some flow with a video but unless you get results or know someone in the industry, getting big is pretty hard to do with just a video.

Yea that is true. You have to be a good spokesperson for their company, as you are excpected to give the brand a good (sometimes certain) image and generate sales.

This is the point i was trying to make. I dont know why this was a problem. Get to know industry people. But like i said, dont thug the fuck out of it. Most of the people running things arent into that shit.

i disagree....don't change who you are...if you're that white boy poser J-Roc from the trailer park boys go for it, if you're Johnny Tight Pants McGhee from Portland, rock that shit. Induviduality and being unique with your style goes a long way more than just being able to do the same tricks as pros and looking jus like the dude who already got sponsed. Finally 2 cents...there's like 100 million skier in the world and about 10 make a living out of it. Sooo, you're chances arn't good but if you got that style all your own, people will notice. That dude Tom is going a long way with that video.

I never said change yourself, you HAVE to be an individual. Im talking at trade shows, dont be a gansta as shit retard. You have to present yourself well to industry types.

This one worked quite well for an ARMADA hookup

Such a sick video

too bad we know the rest of the story

RIP Travis

I'm glad you pointed that out about being yourself I was just going to say that. But to something else in that quote not everyone wants to get sponsored to make a living, although that would be awesome.

Let's face it skiing is an exspensive sport/hobby, so the couple grand I save on equipment allows me to go on trips and ski more. It's also awesome not having to tone down your riding because you might bust equipment spesh when your a 200 lb dude like myself. For DH MTB for ex, I'm constantly evaluating risky things, not on how bad can I get hurt, but how expensive will a crash be and lots of times I can't afford a new front fork so I'll opt out, and I hate that and I would hate it even more in skiing.

What company do you own? Do you sponsor people with parking lot grilled cheese?

There talking large companies, and getting on legitimate teams. You sound like an ass

it would be so funny to see little jibber guys walking around the trade show wearing suits and ties with their sponsor me videos on their ipods. someone please photoshop Henrik or someone in business casual. industry types are skiers too so when people dress up its somewhat of a joke or if its a stuffy dude who takes that stuff into account, he's not a person you'd wanna be associating yourself with. when i wear a collared shirt to work, i always get some kind of sarcastic "you got an interview today" comment. ha!

You just need to do something new, different, and rad. That could mean doing comps a certain way, or making a video a certain way- there is no specific formula to make it happen. And always always be genuine, to yourself and the people you work with.

I didn't know him either... but it's a fucking epic story and I couldn't believe how natural the unnatural was to this kid. best raw talent ever.

anyways, here's the NS story about what went on. Was front page when it happened.

This belongs in this thread for obvious reasons. Travis' edit (and local reputation) got him a deal. The footage of this could easily go straight into soo many of the films we drool over now, AND it was all from 2008.

nelson shredder who got hit by a car here in fernie very sad it was his 19th birthday and not that important now but he was gonna win the comp

your stating two different things in this thread. 1st your saying that the way to get sponsored is to get it out there and chat with leaders in the industry. now your saying that you NEED to make a kick ass video? you also just stated that riding has less to do with it.

i dont know what every one is hating on this guy for every thing he is saying is 100% common sense. if your repping a company you need to fit in with the image they are trying to project, you can be an original person with original style but its your responsibility to represent the company well. i think most of you guys just have no idea what your talking about and no actual experience with the industry (not saying im an expert or anything but ive done abit of this shit and everything this guy said was completely legit)

I really don't believe that you have to fit a certain mold to be what industry folk want. People in the industry like what kids think it cool, so if tall tees and such are cool, then that's cool. My uncle is a local rep (not disclosing name/company etc) and he tells me how people are looking at it, and its definitely not fitting a mold. I can just imagine some kid reading some of these comments and going, "wow I need to fit the mold so I can get sponsored" and then they go burn their tall tees. Screw that. Represent.

key ingredients for a good sponsor video are a good season edit/promo, some solid comp results, some photos, and why that company should sponsor you as well as some backround info is a good place to start, its worked for me and a few of my friends so don't think its impossible

phil casabon was the only person on the orage team to get sponsored straight from a video. so unless you have respectable standings in comps i doubt itll happen with a video.
