tuesday my buddy was heading to work in adams MA when a dumptruck pulled out in front of him on a highway. he was going around 50-55 ( speed limits 50)when he hit the truck.. truck was barley moving.. he was flown to baystate and was just taken out of ccu yesterday and called me and asked me if i would go get his shit out of his car. i knew the accident was bad but i had no idea.. i took my camera and was BLOWN AWAY. his wrx saved his fucking life and when he saw the pics he was grateful to be alive he said and could believe he walked away, not literally but you get it.

Wow this is the second bad accident I've seen, just on here, that a Subaru has saved someones life. I'm impressed. I'm glad your friends okay, that wreck looked really bad :(

The Impreza (WRX/STI/Outback) is ranked as the safest economy car... as in not a mercedes and has some of the highest safety ratings you can possibly receive.
It makes it on to pretty much every safest car list. Sure there are other cars that are as safe/safer....
But in an accident like that, I'd rather be in the subaru with a 5 out of 5 than a mazda with a 4 out of 5

Not all highways are the same....
One that i used to live by had stop signs to enter because traffic on the freeway had no good way of seeing the entering lanes.
Or if there was a construction area, there are trucks all the time on the side of the road and if the driver isn't paying attention they could easily pull out immediately in front of you.

A lot of cars are safe. The impreza just happens to generally rank the highest in its class.
I'd way rather be driving a volvo, but that isn't exactly in the budget.
I think saying the subaru saved his life is a fair claim. There are plenty of comparable cars that wouldn't have done as well in that accident.

wow, from the looks of the car your friend is lucky to even be alive. ++vibes to a quick and healthy recovery

that subaru didnt save his life. people survive shit like that all the time in way worse cars. i know a kid who hit a pole at 50 and basically went to a dead stop and survived in a honda without airbags. he was fucked up, but really not that bad for what happened. also, i saw threee people die in an impreza right in front of me, the car got split in half. they may have airbags and be safe for the type of shit that doesnt kill you. but when the actual structure of the car is fucked up in a high speed accident, id rather take a mercedes bmw or volvo for sure.

I had a mazda and it saved my life.. pretty stoked on how it handled it.

Cars are pretty dam safe now a days.

Just curious if you're aware how long it takes to stop a car that is going 50-55mph and how far you travel in that amount of time...

Let's not make fun of the kid for simply driving, he did nothing wrong and just lost his baby (the wrx).

+ vibes to your friend, that's insane. I totaled my car last year and was devastated. It too, saved my life.

Go ahead and take a Volvo or Mercedes subarus were specially designed soo then it gets hit a specific was as in this the motor folds up and makes it's way under the vehicle..which I did along with the tranny. Subarus also have special firewalls which is part of it's safty and subaus also have anert metal a&b posts which is 3x stronger then the average cars... This isn't a battle in other cars being safe by what Ur saying if tim did this in a Hyundai accent he would of got out of his car and walked away like he did, like once the car caught on fire he jumped out of the car..

fuck you guy

what the fuck does it being a modern Subaru have to do with anthing? That would have happened with any similar vehicle...

i drive a jeep wrangler...while it is all steel and zero plastic like most modern pos cars today i can guarantee you at 50 mph it wouldnt have fared as well as something with a sophisticatedly engineered crumple zone
he also wouldnt have fared as well in a cheaper vehicle..that point has been proven time and time again by many crash studies

you do understand most car companies make their cars this way now. Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Subuaru, Volvo. Just to name a few.

LOL I was about to post this very comment. I am sure the Subi did not save his life. Hope he does OK though and make a full recovery.

A subaru saved my ass one time. I was driving to Breck from Denver at like 11 at night and there has a huge dead elk in the road. I tried to swerve away but my left tire went over its neck and i lost control and did a 3 on the highway. When the police showed up they said that there are only like 3 cars that wouldnt have flipped in that accident and i was driving 1 of them ( Subaru Outback). If i flipped i would have most likeley rolled off I-70 down the medium into the other side of the Highway into traffic. I should do a Subaru Commercial.

I dunno, Jeep's flip so easy. They are actually really dangerous. I have a F-150 and I love it. I hit a Honda accord at 50MPH and I only broke my license frame bracket and I made her Accord look like a Del Sol..lol. I had a 2001 F-150 that blew at 256,000 miles only because the dealership did not fill the coolant correctly and it blew my motor. SO now I have a 2008 F-150 and it drives better then my older one. Just saying...

ford = just as bad as everything else.

honda = just as bad as american cars

Jeep is okay. I wouldn't personally own one for the above mentioned reasons, but in terms of craftsman ship and design they are better than their american brothers.

Anyone who is turning this into a Subaru vs. other brands argument needs to SERIOUSLY consider how big of an ass they are. This guy is lucky to be alive and I am very glad he walked away with apparently no serious injury.
And in regards to car safety ratings, this car has a 5 star rating in almost every category. Of course it's not the only one in existence (no shit, thanks for the help genius). But to suggest that the safety of his car didn't have any significance in a 55 mph head on collision is beyond moronic.
Hug your friend and remember that life is fragile, live it every day!
