Subaru Impreza wrx or Volkswagon Rabbit

So I pull into my drive last night and suddenly smoke begins pouringgg out from under my '96 Jetta's hood. So this morning i looked at it and its not even worth putting money into because so much is fucked with oil / temperature fluid lines, and my radiator supports (which I didnt even know about).

SO we're junking it and looking into something new, but since im leaving for college in a few weeks, my parents are going to pay for most of it it, and it will technically be theirs. Obviously since Im paying for a portion of it, I'll be paying more if they go for the WRX (its like 8000 more) over the rabbit. I dont know much about either, just that both are very fun to drive. Should I try to convince them to spring for the WRX even if it means I'll be paying more?

both sick cars, and fast too. id go with the rabbit, i like it more, the new wrx hatchs look too much of an inbetween of a wagon and a hatch, but both are verysick cars.

What about a GTI? I think it's a couple grand less than the WRX and it's quicker than the rabbit.

I mean put it this way. $8k is a lot of money to be paying off during college. I love the new WRX, but priorities man.

Exactly!

as to finssidedown, who said anything about a new wrx (08), he said new car.

I would get the WRX, any year from 02-07.

Lots of them available now as people are trading up. Check around but make sure you thoroughly check the car out, so it's mechanically sound.

ya i would hands down get a wrx as ong as its not the 08, i would go wiht an 02-07 wagon they are soooooo sick

dude my freinds jetta has been doiong mostly the same thing with the oil and stuff. but i would say the WRX because its a WRX and VWs are more expensive to fix and the wrx has a shit load of pooooowaaaaa!!!!

i'd go with the rabbit. it's a lot cheaper, and if you feel like it you can take the $8000 you saved and pimp out your rabbit. or you could save it for gas, which is what i recommend...

my friend has a rabbit

it's real quick, and an all around nice car.

but i am not sure how it would hold up in snow though...

I have a WRX (05)

Gas milage is alright, but when you factor in filling it with 91 octane premium it doesnt sound as appealing.

I would stick with subaru if you are into skiing and stuff, the AWD is tubular. Check into foresters, legacys and stuff. Maybe even just a normal imprezza.

WRX, and god help you if you get an automatic. its a rally car, its meant to come with a 5spd transmission because the operator is supposed to know how to drive (knowing only auto warrants a comparison to a suburban mom driving a fucking SUV).

on a lighter note, it will probly be more expensive so your call really.
check craigslist.

get a golf gli its a boss check out this picture

wrc drivers use electronically controlled shifting systems allowing the driver to make clutchless gearchanges during races. If you get an auto wrx you can brake boost, but srsly, don't get an auto. I have a 2.0l wrx, I get 17mpg, that's rompin' the accel around town. If you do get a wrx be prepared to spend more money, they all get driven hard and shit tends to go out, if you're buying one with 75k miles or more you'll soon need to replace the clutch, brakes, and wheel bearings. And then once you're done spending money on maintence there are endless performance mods you can and will get.

i had a similar situation. i went with something cheaper and lamer and more efficent because, school is expensive, and gas prices are not going down.
