Stupid Question

Can you accurately measure non symmetrical park skis true center by putting the tape measure along the base of the ski instead of the topsheet.....due to bindings being in the way

I reckon even with the bindings, you could put the ski the right way up and do a straight pull with you tape measure from tip to tail. The very least you'd have to do is engage the heel peice so the tape is able to clear it.

Also I forgot to mention, if you've got any questions like this in the future just post them in the unthreadworthy thread for gear talk. I would link you to said thread, but I'm on mobile.

I have a stupid question as well:

I was looking into the kung fujas and I want to get into touring for the few days there is enough snow the catskills. The k2 website shows that these ski's are skins compatible and advertises them with alpine bindings. Do I need to look into AT bindings or is that not necessary? I want to use these skis full time and appreciate a hard park run.

Also if I decided to not tour back up and put skis on back, do you keep your ski boots on the whole time?

I reread that again and wanted to add that when I said get into touring I was referring to hiking back up and doing some slackcountry down steeper trails. I will get way more time inbounds though..

Boot packing sucks. Get a pair of AT binders and quiver killers. Seriously, i only bootback if my skins wont hold on some terrible summer snow or its steep as holy hell

I would say it depends on how much boot backing your going to do. If you plan to do a couple runs a season and if it's easy to ski out of the slack-counrty area your looking at, I say go regular bindings. Bootpacking does suck but who cares when it's a 40 min hike. Plus you still have to buy multiple pairs of bindings which is not cheap option (park bindings and AT). If your trekking to slack-country on a daily basis I would consider the quiver killers as they will be worth it.

Also another option (which I know some of you hate) some old school Alpine trekkers. Would be the cheapest option. Check it out OP.

On a side note who uses the quiver killers? Just wondering how well they would work with Salomon STH d14 driver cause of the toe adjustment screws?

To some of the posts above, dont get quiver killers, get Binding Freedom inserts. Quiver killers are the knockoff brand

It works ok with certain bindings like fks but for bindings with a bulkier heelpiece like jesters it makes it inaccurate..... it seems to work fine measuring on the base

run a tape measure from tip to tail and use a square on your edge to get your mark. Not rocket surgery.

If you run the tape measure along the bases of your skis, it won't just measure the length of your skis - it will also include the height (rise) of your tip and tail (which might be different from each other), so the centre of that won't be the centre of your skis.

There are two versions of the Fujas. One that has pre-drilled inserts for the Marker SchizoFRANTIC binding and one that's flat like a normal ski.

Do not get the one with the inserts. Even if for whatever reason you want to go with a Schizo, go with the regular binding because the SchizoFRANTIC plates have a tenendecy to crack because there's a bunch of extra holes in them.

Get the flat ski with a Baron or Duke and you'll be good.
