Hey NS
I'm studying abroad in Salzburg, Austria in the spring of 2011 and had a few questions for you.
Whats close to Salzburg skiing wise? Is it pricey? and easy to get to?
My german is not really up to par but I have heard that almost everybody speaks a little english. Do i need to get learned in German? I was planning on taking an intro course when I'm there.
Also are any of you gonna be in the area?
+k for help
Thanks

I lived in austria last year and it was seriously the best time of my life, I would give anything to go back. Theres a ton of skiing up in Salzburg, I would look for a pass, you usually get the best deals. I lived in the state of Steirermark and they had something called the Steirermark joker and I could go to any where in the entire state and ski. Hopefully they'll have a better winter this year.

Dont worry about the German, I went there knowing nothing and I can speak it almost fluently now. Just enjoy your time there. And if you're ever in a city called Leoben, go to pub o cino. Best place ever.

Thanks a bunch. I was also wondering if the trains are pretty easy to use? Especially going to other countries?

iv been here for 1 month in vienna, and gonna stay here to Feb.2011. there is a season pass for 350 lifts and over 2,000 km pistols in salzburg. id like to buy it. the trains are easy to use and not expensive. going to other countries is very simple.

oh yeah its pretty easy

the best thing to do with the trains is get the vorteilscard, well you need to be under 26, but it is the best thing ever, will save you sooo much money. you go to the main ticket office, not the machine and ask for a vorteills card, youll need your passport, a passport photo (it really doesnt matter just that size) and 20 euros, from that it'll make every single train ride in austria half price. its such a good deal, and since youre in salzburg youre pretty close to munich

but for real, do the voreteilcard thing, itll be a lifesaver

Hey mang I'm actually studying abroad at the Uni Salzburg this year too, except for the whole year. It's been pretty dope so far because some of the glaciers are already open. There is the Salzburg Super Ski Card that I think someone was talking about. I bought it and you get a ton of resorts, but I don't know if it will be worth it for you because you won't get here till February and it's a little pricey, but the link ishttp://salzburgsuperskicard.com/ if you wanna check it out, they also have 14 and 10 day tickets too. Taking the train is nice, for the glaciers it's a little difficult because you usually have to take a bus to the mountain, but I heard that once winter rolls around in December there will be buses leaving from the Center/ Altstadt of Salzburg and they are free with a day or season ticket. Also look into the Vorteilscard too, it's cheap, easy and will save you the money on one or two train rides. Hey, give me a message when you get here, or before you get here and we can go ride, I actually snowboard but no big deal haha. BTW: are you living in student housing and if so which one?
PeaceLeif

I know I'm living in student housing I'm just not sure which one yet. Are they nice? I haven't heard anything about them? and thanks i will definitely get ahold of you when i get over there.
