saw that earlier, what a bummer. Already someone in the comments complaining that "the sponsors should pay for it". hope this doesn't turn into a situation like the traveling circus van.

We (speaking for myself and the other guys with sleds) work (mostly summer labor jobs) to pay for our sleds, completely different from any money that comes from skiing or anything related

If only there was something called uninsured automobile insurance that could have helped here.

we had uninsured motorists in our policy so we received insurance payout when our van was ruined. we didn’t recuperate all costs we put into the van based on the mechanic’s lower valuation.

typically, crowdfunding is met with this sentiment and that’s fine. we aren’t forcing anybody to contribute. if our audience wants to voluntarily get involved to support our continued production, we are very grateful. we will continue to make free content no matter what.

this shit is not very sustainable. idk what your impression is, but neither andrew nor i have made a cent of money off of our last three years working on strictly, neither have any of the skiers. so, we are extremely thankful to be part of a community that wants to support us while we focus on this short period in our lives.

Yeah sorry my comment was pretty rough. I guess I just don't understand why y'all need 10k especially if you say you got some cash from insurance. You could certainly replace that exact model van for a 1/4-1/2 that amount. That's why I was skeptical.

no worries. your comment wasn't rough, it is a reasonable point and i'm just coming with a counter. last year, pete fronted the money to pay for the van and we never had enough capital to pay him back until we got the insurance money in june. most years it is similar - we have to pay for much of the project out of our pockets then reimburse ourselves as our sponsors are able to fulfill contracts. you can absolutely get a van for a 1/4, 1/2 that amount. but can you always get a used 20-year old van you can trust to drive 4,000 miles to and from quebec? w/ low miles, good maintenance history, etc.? maybe with the right opportunity, but not commonly. the boys have budgeted that 10k is best for their costs, and we back that. we got a lucky deal on the van last year and we still ran into electrical and ignition issues that ate at other aspects of our budget.
