Stretched the ol' meniscus...what to expect?

Yeah so I don't know exactly how it happened but I walked off skiing sunday with a huge pain in my left knee. I thought it was from some bail I took but it kept on all through monday. I'd felt it be pretty stiff the past week, too. So I went to the doctor, he told me I had a "stretched meniscus." So I was scared shitless, he said I might not be able to ski for 1-2 months, but it could be a lot shorter. He's checking it out tomorrow again, it was only a 10 minute checkup.

I know it's not torn...or if it is, it's a very small tear. I can definitely still ski, I would just take it real easy, but I want to be able to have a strong knee for when I go into the comp season. Any of you guys have experience with this? What should I be expecting?

if your scared maybe get a brace, as far as the pain goes ib prophen is the way to go i take 800mg before every sesh. if it still hurts listen to what your knee is telling you and take a break. knee's will fuck you over if you give'em a chance. and once it gets better lift lift lift until your legs are so ripped they wont even fit into your snow pants. knees are a bitch man, good luck.

yeah my left knee has always been prone to injury, just something about the way it was all put together in my creation. whatever. thanks for the advice. any other takers?

You should go see a physiotherapist, since your left knee is prone to getting hurt, you probably have some sort of alignment problem in your feet, ankles or knees. PTs can give you exercises to get your alignment proper and also strengthen your knee.

Never heard of a "stretched meniscus".... I just googled it to see what it was, and no condition called stretched meniscus comes up anywhere.. hmmm...... But anywho even if that is the case did he even get an mri?? If not I would definitely tell your doc that you want one. It might turn out that its actually a tear in which case I would serrrrrrriously advise getting surgery as soon as possible, not because a tear in the meniscus is a big deal but because its very minor surgery and you can be back out skiing on it in ike two weeks. And taking a few weeks off is definitely better than skiing with your knee feeling like shit for the rest of the season

well I think it might just be that one of the ligaments or something is stretched. the school doctor is retarded, I'm going to a specialist tomorrow.

ah word. yea find out for sure cuz a stretched ligamint doesn't need surgery but it will tear a lot easier if you go an try to get back to jumping and stuff to quickly

as much as you dont wanna hear this, i would take those 2 weeks and get it fully recovered, because if you tore that sucker, your out for at least 3 months

i did the same thing back in december. but now whenever i ski it hurts a little. i just ice it when i can and wear a brace for anything more than walking. but listen to the dr. if he says stay of it then stay of it, cause im a dumbass and do what i want and my knee has been hurting since the incident
