well there is different ways of looking at this, say on a torque wrench you have to set it to zero after each use or it will go out of calibration but the spring is alot more delicate and it's a different application, but take a ball point pen for example, the spring never gets used up (dumb example maybe). so for your own peace of mind it probably wouldn't hurt but i don't see it making much of difference, or saving the spring.
wax your skis though and leave the wax on including the edges (to keep from corrosion), next season just scrape and you're all set. i guess the layer of wax helps preserve the base from drying out.
also make sure not to store them near base heaters. some people say not to latch the breaks together, no clue why though, any one know?
