STH reviews from NS

whats up NS, was curious if anybody would be willing to review or just simply let me know what they personally think of STH bindings, considering buying some here soon?

thanks

Solid, but only one complaint.

Great adjustability (Better than pivots)

great features(dampening system)

Awesome feel

great elasticity

easily replaceable brakes.

cons:

All pairs of my sths have destroyed my heel lugs.

How long did it take for them to get fucked up? Was it like instant

second only to pivots imo. The toe piece has the best feel of any binding, super easy to click into pow, and the sth2 breaks are coated in a bunch of rubber which seems to help against bending. However, they have a pretty big dead spot feeling on the tail of the ski, and every pair I've had has developed rattle in the heel after a season and a half of hard use. slopestyle has them for stupid cheap as well which is sick. Its a great binding for pow skis, but for park the low swing weight and durability of a pivot is just unbeatable.

Good to know, those are my two options right now, STH’s and pivots. I’m putting them on some vishnu wides, so they’re gonna be in the park more than pow but will definitely see some powder. I found pivots on level 9 for 197 which is only like 40 more than STH’s so that might be where i end up going

I’m curious why you prefer them? Only negative i’ve read about STH’s is that they can prematurely eject in powder and some big landings...

They start to get chewed up after a half a season, but not so bad they you have to get rid of the boots

If you find yourself needing to step into your binding in exposed pow frequently the sth is great. Else just get pivots as it’s preferable for everything else except bsl adjustment.

Just ordered pivots as nothing can compete with Ol’reliable

You really cant go wrong at a certain point. For me it came down to the feel. I love the wide driver toe, but the overall footprint of the binding just felt clunky to me, especially in the tail. If you can find a deal on metal toe pivots go with those, more weight sure, but you don't feel it when your clicked in and you wont need to buy a new binding for many years. I'm currently rocking the same FKS (pivot) 18s i bought used 8 years ago. The grit just dont quit.

The grit dont quit i reckon ? ?

I love the pivot for all the reasons we all know and love, and I used them on all my more freestyle skis. I will say though I go with the STH2 mostly on my more hard charging skis as the amount of power transfer that comes from that binding is truly unmatched. It just has that burly feel you can't really find elsewhere, I miss the old steel 16's...

Are you guys not freaked out by the lateral release on the STH16s? I just got magic Js with them on there and when I went to do my usual binding test, I was like wait what??? When the whole toepiece spun

If it is set up correctly the STH toe seem better IMO. Also it looks like a space ship or a fighter jet, maybe a space fighter IDK.

Anyways it is a good reliable binding so I am confident in mine. Never had any issues with premature boot wear like others are mentioning in this thread either. For me they just seem to work. I probably would have put them on all my skis but I discovered that tyrolias give me the same performance and confidence and they have been a better deal the last couple times I purchased bindings. If it was the same or a lower price I'd totally get STH though

Pivot 18s and 15s move in almost the exact same way. The mechanics are very similar between the metal toe pivots and the sth 2, the sth actually has more toe elasticity in it than pivots do, but the heels on pivots have significantly more so over all pivots have more elastic travel.

I think those two bindings are the only ones on the market that move like that, everything else has a dual cam action with two wings that move independently of eachother.

Interesting you say this about power transfer.

I was thinking the same thing but didn’t know if it was all in my head or not. Personally I feel more dampness and power transfer on the sth vs my pivot 18/15s.

I've been rocking the same set of STH 13's for 8 years now. Best binding on the market in my opinion. I have had no issues with the heel piece digging into my boot lugs. I definitely have to adjust my toe wings more often now.

I definitely don't feel as solid of a connection to a pair of skis in any other binding.

I have been buying the STH2 13 exclusively for my skis for 5 years now. Very safe, reliable release, has yet to pre release on me and I feel like it drives the ski very well. I really see no reason to switch, though have Shifts for going up. Salomon is top notch when it comes to bindings, having used the 16 DIN as well a bit this year too
