I am by no means trying to get sponsored as I am in no way, shape or form, good enough to do so. But i do have to write an article for english about how to get sponsored and if any of you would like to give me advice or ideas, post here or send me a P.M.

Cheers, Rob

yeah. The key is consistancy. Another important one is variety. Nobody will sponsor you if you can only throw down some sick trick once, and nobody will sponsor you if you're a 1-trick wonder. Gotta have both consistancy and variety.

you have to be all around good, and have a good promo...and its all about the distribution...send your promo out to every rep and every company you can get.

^ All around good, and distribution. So basically what I said, worded by a fool. And you have to make a promo tape? really? I don't think any of us knew that!!!

it's not about how you ski, it's about who you fuck!

SKIER'S IRRESPONSIBILITY CODE

1.ski FAST at ALL TIMES

2.take MAX air at EVERY opportunity

3.POACH everyone's favourite lines

4.IGNORE all posted signs

5.EVADE patrol at all costs

6.SMOKE big fat stinky ones

7.DRINK to excess

Obviously connections in the industry will help you out alot but the main thing is being a good all-around skier and not saying stuff like 'i cant hit that rail, its too high' and shit like that most pros dont get to choose where they go on photo shoots or whatever they can rip it up anywhere and thats what makes them so good, consistency.

hah, you know. I am not so really sure about consistancy or just being a one-hit wonder.. I wouldn't rule that out.

Let's say for example that you were one of the first people to throw a backflip to rail. Everybody was there to get it on tape, MSP, PBP, etc. Now, you have a clip in all their latest movies just for doing that.

Even if that is the only thing you can do, companies will be on your nuts. Because you, son, have exposure.

In the end, sponsorships really lead to a few different things. #1, the first and foremost important factor is 'Being at the right place at the right time'

That's it.

#2. Look at it from a companies' perspective. Companies are concerned with MONEY. CASH. so the question they ask is, ''Will this person representing our company cause us to sell more products?'' What is your image? Is it an image that the company can market? If yes, then you my boy are on your way to being spancered!

#3. Exposure. Who do you know? Is your name out there? One good way of getting your name out there is through competitions. So yes, consistancy and steadily placing high in competitions will be good for you. But simply being a consistant/versatile rider isn't going to do it for you.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

be a people person, i know its hard to please everyone, but if you try, and put the effor out there, it'll help. also people that are annoying to the compaines or the reps aren't going to go anywhere. people don't want to sponser som little punk-ass kid who thinks he's the shit. and keep up a positive attitude... it helps a lot. learn from mistakes and try everything at least once... and being an all-around skiier helps too, that way they can market you with all of their gear.

oh... and if you fuck someone with connections, it always helps, although i doubt that would be appropriate for an english paper

no way Melvs. hah, I was using the backflip to rail as an example. That even if that was the only trick he could do and if he were a one hit wonder, that companies would still be on him.

All those Mcmurray's have alot of skill and are well rounded skiers.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

I was also wondering how would you get sponsored for big mountain action? Cuz a promo vid in the park wont cost you that much, but going heliskiing or cat skiing a few times will make it some expensive crap. How did Seth get sponsored for example?

Gravity sucks

Today I met my biggest challenge. I had to take a piss in a moving bus.

connections help alot... if you know people with a heli skiing program up in alaska or something you're set as far as big mountain goes... get a friend of a friend to hook you up

i was under the impression you were talking about paul cotter...backflip to rail...propaganda...

It's a 2 step process really.

1. Get really really ridiculously good.

2. Get sponsored.

bah. this is my point; If you do something and you get exposure for it, companies will probably come after you. It's not so important all the tricks you can do, but in the end 'Will you sell more products for the company?' and is your image something that can represent them?

Remember, exposure. Being at the right place at the right time. I'm sure you guys have all seen Brad Holmes inside countless ski magazines and even segments in some ski movies. Now, he can ski don't get me wrong, but is it his countless/versatile tricks and being a consistant rider that got him where he is at?

No. It's exposure. People know who he is, and companies feel that by having him represent them that they will sell more products. bottom line.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

Step 1: Learn to spell it.

... I'm not convinced that many people get past step one.

Getting sponsored is the same thing as getting a job. You have to have skills and you need to be able to market those skills. Some companies will want your skills and others may want different skills.

And with any job, you need a resume: showing all skills; you need to turn that in, and your need to persitantly call every day/everyother day, and talk to the man incharge of 'hiring'(sponsoring).

being good n knowin people helps
