Steeples are sick, I can't say enough good things about them. I racked up about 140,000 ft of vert on mine this season. They are a great do it all ski. Light enough I'll take them on pure ski-mo missions and enough float I'll ski 12 inches of pow with them.
That being said I find them being somewhat of a comprise between two extremes. I came off 2014 Volkl Ones with salomon guardians and I feel way more stable ripping at speeds on those than my steeples (with dynafit radicals FT). You can definitively tell its a more touring specific ski and has that light weight feel. You gain a ton of efficiency on the uphill, but I found it traded off for stability at speed. You can't hold an edge like a true alpine ski with alpine binders.
Like I said I enjoy them thoroughly but next season I will be adding a beefier ski to my quiver for more free ride oriented backcountry days.
