Steamboat

My aunt, uncle, and cousins invited my family to go out with them to steamboat at christmas this year from the 21st to the 27th or something. Im obviously really stoked about going cuz ive only been out west once last year when i went to jackson hole with my friend.

The problem is that my aunt and uncle and cousins are total gapers and they are planning the entire trip with nonstop activities to do off the mountain. I told my dad i dont wanna do anything but ski and chill in the hot tub and go into town but we basically have to do all these things with them cuz they invited us. I am also assuming that i will have to be skiing with my dad, my uncle, and my 2 cousins (8th grade girl and 3rd grade boy) most of the time so im not too happy about that. My dad is getting too old to be able to ski aggressive terrain really and he wont let me ski by myself cuz we havent been to the mountain before. He said he would be willing to pay for a guide to show me around the mountain and stuff but i would rather just ski around with kids my age.

So my question is..is there anyone on here who will be at steamboat around that time that knows the mountain that would be willing to show me around and stuff. im more into powder and woods than park cuz im not too good at it. im a senior btw. and what are conditions gonna be like around christmas? thanks

Pat

Well I wont be there then but i think i can give you some usefull info.

I grew up going on a family ski trip every year to steamboat. A really nice feature about Steamboat is that its set up really nice for a group of skiers with a variety of skiers to ski together. Look up a Steamboat map and you will see what im talking about. For example: taking the lift up to storm peak, my mom and sister could hit up buddy's run, a really chill blue run, while my dad, brothers and I would take storm peak and cyclone or the flying z and meet up at the bottom of buddies. They wed take drop out and they would take the cat walk to a blue run cant think of it and meet back up at the lift. Anyway its a good mountain for that kind of thing.

Non sking activites, u gotta figure out how to get out of those on your own. But remember not to piss people off if they are paying for your skiing, without them you wouldnt get to ski at all.

steamboat is a hard core place and i'd imagine from previous years on christmas that this year will have a good two feet of fresh on an absolutely blue bird day. hope you convince your dad and uncle and whoever to let you ski by yourself cause it is def a fun place!

just try to play along with the bullshit and ski as much as you can, then once you do go ski, either talk to your dad to get him to let you peace out to the park or something or just fall behind them then peace the fuck ouy and say you got lost

one of the great things about steamboat is the fact that you can ski the trees right next to runs allll over the place and have an awesome time.

steamboat is also just in general a pretty family friendly and easy to follow/hard to get lost on mountain, your parents may relax once your there.
