Hey, just a simple question about making a steadycam here.
Is the main idea to add weight to your camera?
I have a t1i and an Opteka x-grip. If i tape a weight to the bottom will it give me the same effect as the pole?
The main idea is to have a point that you hold where the weight on the top of the pole and bottom of the poll are balanced, so no, just adding weight will not do the same thing as a steadycam does.
Use a tripod. Extend the top of the pod out, to make it higher, but not the legs. Put your camera on. find the balance point, and hold there. It works, but not as good as a real one.
My dad does steadicam for a living and had a little one sitting in the basement his freind gave him. I dont know if it is still there but i know he was looking to sell it to buy a new vest for his big one. I ca ncheck next week when i get home for ya
You can make one for super cheap. I've made several. They tend to work best for smaller cameras from my experience. This one works really well with my hv20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rTRbGXJvrA. I posted this in another forum a few days ago. Note, I didn't make this video.
