So I'm trying to get a ski and board club started at Utah State University, I thought there would already be one but there isnt. So i'd like to get some ideas of benefits for members, activites, and pretty much anything. I have a bunch of ideas already but I want to see what other things people come up with!

plan trips...even though it shouldnt be too hard to do in utah, but maybe some stuff out of state?
this was the biggest thing by far that helped us attract new member when i was president of the ski club at my school. we used to bring 30+ kids to CO from out east every year, people fucking looooooved it (obviously). and we were able to make it happen cause we found student travel agencies that did awesome group rate ski vacations, we always stayed at massive slopeside condos where you could just ski out the back door.
also, see if any mountains in your area will "sponsor" you by hooking up some sort of group pass discount for member of the club, that always reels people in.
and the prospect of having people to carpool to the mountains with is always a big deal, that's one of the main things a ski club is good for.

Yeah i hadnt thought about anything out of state! that would be good! We could also just do day trips to SLC and some of the bigger resorts.

I would try and talk to our local mtn and see if they'll give the members a discount! Yeah a car pool is somthing i thought of too!

But i like the idea of some big trips, i'll have to look into that more.

I also want to try and get with some local shops or some companies and see if they would give us a discount on gear. What do you think of that?

I went to a meeting for the ski club at my school and it was all kids who had been once or twice and they were all douches.

I did the same at my university.
I went through USCSAhttp://www.uscsa.com/
Go there, figure out your conference. It is totally worth it. You basically get all your events planned for you and anything you do in addition is a bonus.
Its a ski and snowboard conference where there is slalom and such, but there are also pipe, slopestyle and skier cross comps which are sooooo much fun.
USC has a great website for their teamhttp://www.uscsnowsports.org/
check out their team for ideas
Oh and you don't have to compete at all to be part of the team as long as you pay the $30 dues and what not you get access to your conferences proforms.
Ours had DC, 686, Lange, Rossignol, Lamar, Neff, and spy.... So worth it.

i Just started one at my school. its fucking gay. we cant meet at our mtn, we cant ski as a group, we cant watch videos where people get hurt, and we cant watch any movies with "bad words" in them. were in fucking highschool not pre school. its so gay

we had a lot of kids in our club who competed and skied every weekend, but we also had a lot of kids who were relatively new to it...my outlook was always the more the merrier, i really just loved spreading my love of skiing to new people as much as possible. yeah, when we went i took people out west there were a lot of guys who had never skied anything but east coast, and there were a few people who had only been skiing like a year. as people got the hang of the different conditions there was a lot of talk about "ooooh well i want to ski with yall but i dont think i can keep up" and my reply was always who cares? the whole point is to have fun. and besides, it doesnt matter how good you are as long as youre stoked, and if we didnt have as many stoked people every year we wouldnt have been able to take such fun trips.
yeah, some of those kids will never know the joys of skiing sweet tree lines and dropping cliffs on pow days, but it seriously doesnt matter. when it comes to ski clubs youve just gotta get along with the gapers and have as much fun as possible, cause not everybody can be as sweet as we are.

there is one at my middle school and we are going to

squaw

kirkwood

northstar

rose

boreal

heavenly

alpine meadows

and some more around tahoe and we get like 20 dollar lift tickets and can do what ever we want all day

honestly dude I wouldnt bother with a 'club' .. if your a student you will get student discounts on passes, so get yourself a pass to the closest mountain and shred by yourself.

unless you NEED to go with a 'club' , figure out who you need to talk to at your school and organize a few people who would want to be part of the club. explain the benefits and ask for a grant and transportation.

like i said.. i wouldnt bother, clubs are bullshit.

i live for soul carving

apply for money from the school buy a bunch of ski movies and have movie showings in sick lecture halls. and have a couple dollar dues and throw big parties at a club members house. and use your leverage to get what you want from local resorts. have rail jams places. could be a lot of fun.

Jokes aside, most universities have funds available for clubs. Talk to the students union if you have one and see what the deal is.

wow i feel old, middle school?

im doing the same thing at my school dude maybe 3 people can ride with some descency its a pain in the ass to wright the constution for it and all that stuff but if we can use my school van and gass and get money to have parties and go skiing y not,

if you right your stuff up dude wana send me a copy and ill do the same?
