Starting park skiing

Hi guys.

I'm starting park skiing this year, and I'm wondering if there's anything I should know before I start. Also maybe basic things such as landing jumps and rails. Thanks

-commit to whatever you are trying to do. don't have ass it, that's how you fall and get hurt.-don't worry about what other kids think in the park. Everyone started somewhere so don't be embarrassed if other people are better than you. Also, who cares if they give you shit for not being good. That's their own problem for being douche bags.-push yourself, but not too far. Push your comfort zone, but not too far.-talk to people on the hill and make friends-if you fall on a jump or rail and your equipment is in the landing area, get up and get out of the way and walk up the side so you don't get hit by someone else-call your drop. When everyone is waiting to hit a feature say "next drop" so people know you are going next to avoid confusion-don't snake people (cut them off)-HAVE FUN!
these are just a few that popped into my head right away.

Well I'm going to knock on wood because I've been skiing 60+ days the last 6 years and the only time I got hurt was when a gaper cut me off and I ended up in the woods with a broken thumb. If you push yourself the right amount, you'll stay safe and learn some cool shit too.

Make sure you get out of the park and ski some pow every once in a while.

Have Fun.

Don't be intimated by people when your trying new tricks, just fuck the haters and go for it, even if they laugh if you fell on a railslide.

your a lucky one, ive had 2 bad broken arms in 3 years and the doc says if i do it again he doesnt know what to do cuz he cant operate anymore

have fun bro ! park skiing is really fun, start with the basic and get better step by step. But the most important in my opinion, you shouldn't care about what people think you look like, the haters gonna hate but who cares. Be what you what and what you think looks good on you.

Have fun.

Don't over rush through the progression. Make sure you're comfortable with whatever you're working on before moving on.

Don't be afraid of falling, it's going to happen. Stay loose and confident and you can avoid most injuries.

Even though some kids can be royal dicks, don't let them get into your head. Stay focused and enjoy what you're doing, chances are you'll get respect for trying new things.

Like everyone said, have fun with it. Ski as much as possible and even build a backyard setup. Meet people better than you and ski with them, it is amazing how much I progress when I ski with people better than me. Try to jib off of features outside of the park and learn 180s and 360s first. Getter done

I started 2 years ago is diffident watch the calling of who's dropping. Also, DO NOT CARE WHAT THE HATERS HATE. where i live they hate when new people come to park to learn. Just deal with them. people wreck stuff happens.

when i first started park skiing i was a little intimidated because other people were so good i was terrible. dont be afraid of what other people think, they were at your level at some point. committ to everything! this can be tough to do but youll be surprised by what you can do if you committ 100%. know you limits and dont push your self too fast. call out "dropping next" if youre about to go so you dont cut people or get cut off. if youre having trouble with a trick, ask someone in the park, theyll be nice and help you unless theyre an ass hole

the way i learned to do rails was just slide them stright on at first to get the feel or sliding. then one you get more comfortable with that, start to turn you skis a little more perpendicular to the box each time untill you are completely turned 90 degress to the box. keep you feet a little more than shoulder width apart and have some bend in your knees. make sure to commit!

for jumps, start on the smaller ones and get comfortable in the air. once you are, try some bigger jumps. practice skiing backwards before you attempt a 180

put in your music on full and hot lap all day, dont bitch out, commit 100% to everything, and learn to fall, when it happens it happens quickly so learn to fall properly, as weird as that may sound

get a trampoline! they help

get skis that are the right size (too long skis make it muuuuuch harder to spin)

aim for 360's for now. dont worry about what other kids are doing...

ski with people either on your level or a bit better - this helps you progress faster

doing things with the right technique(spins and rails) helps a ton- its not all about being fearless.

HAVE FUN

have fun with it and ski with friends, on that note ski with friends that are better than u also, u'd be surprised how much you'll progress around them

go big or go home, if u try a trick and are not fully committed u could have a bad time ahead of you

good luck

im sure this has all been said but.

always ski with friends. make sure theyre the kind of friends that will be there to support you and not just laugh at you the whole time, although that is to be expected some of the time.

put yourself in a very self confident mood and try hard not to be intimidated by other riders or the features themselves. i find that when i tell myself that a feature looks easy and that i can do it, 9 times out of 10 it ends up working out

make sure youre having fun, and if youre not take a break and take another run to settle yourself.

surround yourself with a fun group of kids who are better than you, they'll push you like crazy and you be really determined to get on their level. and just never take it to seriously. good luck

just take it at a good pace, step up to a bigger trick when ready and youll progress really fast. me and my friends starting parking skiing this year and progressed alot by the end. more then i thought i would have.
