I've been wanting to try film and I finally want to make a purchase. I know it's expensive.

I've searchbarred and didn't find much info.

I'm thinking about getting a Krasnogorsk K-3 as a starter 16mm camera. Anyone have any thoughts on that, or advice?

A camera that costs about $200 or less would be perfect.

Thanks.

haha Iv'e also been looking at them after i saw them pop up in ski edits. Mainly stept. I think they look amazing then went on Google and saw the price and I was like oh shit. I Would also be really excited to here from someone who has experience with them.

Camera's are relatively cheap, one of my French buddies films everything in 16mm on an Arriflex, I once handled dealing with a lab for him, about 400ft (11mins give or take at 25fps) of colour video ended up costing:

Film = 200

Developing = 0,30*400=120

Scanning 2K = 0,35*400=140

So that's 460 bucks, just to get 11min on a drive. Of course every lab has there own prices but it will be expensive.

If you are passionate about it, go ahead, just know it's a bottomless pit. ;)

Look at a Canon Scoopic, We use them for experimental film in our film program at MSU and its a pretty nice camera. You could probably find one for $200.00 but otherwise they are going for around 300-500.

K-3s can get the job done if you get one in good shape. Dirt cheap too. I have one collecting dust in my closet.

My buddy shot this with his:
